The Meharali Research Group is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant (RA) to support a newly funded research project focused on the pilot testing of a mobile app aimed at supporting immigrant adolescents in Alberta. The RA will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and research team to assess the app's effectiveness through both qualitative and quantitative methods.
The successful candidate will play a key role in participant recruitment, intervention implementation, data collection and analysis, and research dissemination. This is an excellent opportunity for a researcher interested in public health, youth development, digital interventions, or immigrant health.

With over 1,700 students and strong partnerships across Alberta, the faculty leads innovative, high-impact research to meet the health needs of diverse communities and address global health challenges.
- Assist in the design and development of project materials, including study aides, data collection tools, and summary tables.
- Recruit participants and engage with community stakeholders across Alberta and research sites in another province.
- Collect and analyze both qualitative (e.g., focus groups, interviews) and quantitative (e.g., surveys) data and conduct statistical analyses (e.g., descriptive statistics, t-tests)
- Prepare data visualizations, tables, and figures for internal reports, publications, and presentations.
- Prepare and submit ethics applications, renewals, and amendments as required.
- Coordinate and deliver intervention sessions (e.g., webinars, calls) to participating youth.
- Ensure compliance with research protocols, privacy, institutional ethics requirements, and funding agency guidelines.
- Maintain detailed documentation, including field notes, records, and research logs.
- Support the preparation of knowledge translation materials such as reports, infographics, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
- Liaise regularly with stakeholders, investigators, and team members to ensure effective communication and progress monitoring.
Minimum
- Master's degree in public health, health sciences, psychology, education, social sciences, or a related field
- Strong quantitative research and statistical analysis skills, survey/data tools (e.g., REDCap, SPSS, Qualtrics); proficiency in SPSS, R, Stata, or similar software required.
- 2–3 years of academic research experience, particularly in mixed-methods research.
- Strong understanding of research ethics, REB protocols, and data management practices.
- Demonstrated experience with both qualitative (e.g., interviews, focus groups) and quantitative (e.g., surveys, data analysis) methods.
- Experience with qualitative analysis software tools (e.g., NVivo).
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred
- Experience working with youth, vulnerable populations, immigrant communities, or in community-based research is considered an asset.
- Prior experience with usability testing, digital health interventions, or human-centered design research.
- Familiarity with survey design and administration.
