Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Quality Assurance & Food Safety, the Shift Chemist is responsible for performing a wide variety of tasks in our laboratory operations, including tests, communicating results of the samples to the Shift Supervisor, assisting and overseeing the Lab Tester. This is a temporary position required for Lantic Taber's Beet Campaign (approximately September to February) and Juice Campaign (approximately April to June) each year.

Responsibilities:

• Promote a safe working environment and follow all workplace and job safety procedures;
• Gathering and testing of in-process samples and final product as per the Standard Operating Procedures;
• Assist with chemical reagent preparation;
• Standardize instruments and communicate any issues to the Shift Supervisor;
• Enter data into the lab software system;
• Assist in providing training for the Lab Tester and Shift Chemist positions when required;
• Assess safety risks associated with assigned tasks as needed;
• Ensure standards of safety and housekeeping are maintained, complete any relevant paperwork;
• Complete incident statements as required;
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor.

Qualifications:

• Highschool diploma or equivalent;
• Lab experience and familiarity with HAACP, GMPs, and/or GFSI would be considered an asset;
• Safety conscious record and attitude;
• Ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts, averaging 42 hours/week (factory operates 24 hours/day, 7 days/week);
• Willingness to work flexible hours including unscheduled overtime, weekends, and holidays;
• Willingness to obtain First Aid certificate and provide First Aid as needed;
• Good communication and interpersonal skills;
• Good time management;
• Ability to muti-task with minimal supervision;
• Strong organizational and analytical skills;
• Accuracy and attention to detail.
