We're supporting a growing engineering group working on next-generation rail control and communication products. This role sits at the center of the product lifecycle — gathering market needs, defining system requirements, shaping architecture, guiding cross-functional engineering, and ensuring the final product is safe, compliant, and ready for the rail environment.

What You'll Do

  • Translate customer and market needs into clear hardware, software, firmware, and mechanical requirements
  • Build and maintain top-level system architectures and interface definitions
  • Lead verification and validation planning for design specifications, system behavior, and safety requirements
  • Support safety and regulatory compliance across FRA and Transport Canada frameworks
  • Develop and maintain the top-level Bill of Materials (BOM)
  • Track and manage product cost estimates
  • Identify and mitigate system-level project risks
  • Participate in design reviews, change control discussions, and DFM/DFS activities
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and status updates for internal teams and leadership

What You Bring

  • Strong background in systems engineering, product engineering, or requirements engineering for safety-critical products
  • Experience in rail, aerospace, automotive, industrial controls, or another regulated environment
  • Proven ability to write, maintain, and manage system requirements
  • Knowledge of structured development models (V-Model, stage-gate, or similar)
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, firmware, software)
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as FRA and Transport Canada is an asset
  • Ability to balance technical depth with clear communication to leadership teams
