We're searching for a full-time Environmental Systems Operator for a 12 month contract at our Vancouver Plant near Powell Street and Commercial Drive. This role is responsible for the the operation of waste water, storm water, and odour control systems. Environmental Systems Operators monitor compliance with environmental permits by collecting, preserving, and submitting samples for laboratory analysis, and by ensuring compliance limits are maintained on the control systems.

The hourly rate is $38.00/hr. 

Possession of a valid Class 4 Power Engineer certification is required.

ACCOUNTABILITIES 


•    Ensure effective and efficient operations of the waste water, storm water, and odour control systems

•    Manage and monitor chemical supply systems (e.g. polymers, sodium hydroxide, sulphuric acid, etc.)

•    Carry out daily facility tours, review system operation records, and equipment monitoring log forms

•    Clean, test, and calibrate analytical instruments

•    Collect, preserve, and submit samples for laboratory analysis

•    Troubleshoot, and make minor repairs or adjustments to the environmental control systems

•    Monitor and clean site drains and sumps as required

•    Coordinate transfers of material (e.g. sludge) with the production operators and trucking department

•    Keep environmental control system and odour control systems areas clean and free of hazards

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

Qualifications & Functional Requirements 


•    Possession of a valid Class 4 Power Engineering Certificate is required ( preference will be given to candidates who are actively pursuing or have made progress toward obtaining their Class 3 or Class 2 Power Engineering Certificate )

•    Environmental Operator's Certificate is an asset

•    Possession of a valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean abstract required

•    Experience with environmental software and reporting, operating environmental control systems such as primary wastewater treatment and wet scrubbers, along with chemical handling, and industrial process operation an asset

•    High level of mechanical aptitude and understanding of HACCP program practices

•    Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, with excellent communication skills

•    Ability to read or interpret diagrams, schematic drawings and manuals to determine work procedures

•    Perform repetitive motions including bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing and reaching overhead above the shoulders daily

•    Adaptable to adverse conditions including confined space, heights, cold weather, odours and exposure to animal by-products
