Transdev Canada is seeking dedicated and compassionate casual HandyDART Bus Drivers to join our Vancouver team.

As a HandyDART Driver, you will provide essential transportation services for individuals with disabilities and mobility challenges, ensuring their safety, comfort, and dignity. Your role:

  • Provide safe and courteous door-to-door service by picking up all clients on time and delivering them to their destinations safely and within a reasonable time frame.
  • Assist passengers with boarding, securing mobility devices, and disembarking using appropriate on-board restraints for wheelchairs and other mobility aids.
  • Comply with all traffic regulations, company Safety & Health regulations, and accessible transportation standards.
  • Employ all defensive driving techniques and safety policies to eliminate preventable and non-preventable accidents and passenger injuries.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch or central office personnel via two-way radio, mobile data computer or other company provided technology.
  • Follow assigned routes and schedules, making stops at designated locations to ensure passengers' timely arrival at their destinations.
  • Provide a safe, respectful, and empathetic environment for passengers, addressing their specific needs and concerns.
  • Diffuse difficult situations and maintain order onboard vehicle.
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, reporting any defects or maintenance issues to the maintenance team.
  • Ensure safe and clean vehicle condition at the start and end of each shift.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanour.

Your profile:

  • You hold a class 1, 2 or 4 Unrestricted Driver's License OR a valid Class 4 Learner's License.
  • You have a clean driving record.
  • You are able to perform medium to heavy physical work of kneeling, bending, reaching overhead, loading/unloading passengers, pushing/pulling, and lift up to 50lbs.
  • You must be able to pass drug and alcohol testing and criminal background checks.
  • You have a strong commitment to safety and customer service, and enjoy interacting with the public.
  • You can operate accessible transportation equipment and secure mobility devices.
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • You desire to make a real difference in the lives of the customers you serve
  • Prior experience in passenger transportation, especially with individuals with disabilities, is an asset.

Your location:

  • This is a casual, unionized position in Vancouver, BC.
  • Flexible schedule: early, split and late shifts may be required.
  • HandyDART Bus Drivers must be available for a minimum of 10 days per month, including weekdays and weekends.
