Position Overview

Working as a member of the inter-professional team, the Occupational Therapist will be responsible for providing assessment, consultation, treatment and education to the patient, family members and the interprofessional team within a variety of program areas including but not limited to critical care, geriatrics, respirology, medicine, stroke, surgery, the emergency department. The successful candidate will participate in program development, quality assurance, and program evaluation. Also, the candidate will actively participate in regular team meetings, liaising with community-based providers, advocating on behalf of clients and their families and participation in inter-professional patient and family conferences as needed.  

The primary area of coverage for this role will be within medicine which is subject to change based on operational needs. Rotation into the weekends is required

Education 

-    Graduate of an accredited university program in OT.

-    Minimum B.Sc (OT) or equivalent required.

-    License to practice with the College of Occupational Therapists and a member in good standing.

-    MoCA (Montreal Cognitive Assessment) certification ora willingness to complete within 6 months.

Qualifications

-    Minimum 3 years recent experience with geriatric, medical, orthopaedic, cardio respiratory and neurology adult patients.

-    Experience working within stroke and/or neurology is preferred

-    Post grad training in geriatrics, medicine, neurology and/or seating an asset.

-    MoCA certification required

-    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work and function effectively as an interdisciplinary team member required.

-    Excellent conflict resolution skills required.

-    Ability to navigate a constantly changing environment nimbly and with ease required.

-Flexibility and demonstrated acumen with problem solving required.

-    Willingness to participate/lead health service councils and task groups.

-    Motivated to practice in accordance with the mission and vision of hospital/health service.

-    Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and personal development.

-    Evening and weekend shifts may be necessary.

-    Good work and attendance record required.
