What you can expect to do here:
Lead Project Controls Team: Provide leadership and direction to the project controls team, including planners, schedulers, and cost controllers. Mentor and develop staff, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
Establish Processes and Standards: Develop, implement, and maintain standardized project control processes, methodologies, and tools for scheduling, budgeting, cost monitoring, and risk management across all projects.
Project Life Cycle Support : Assist major projects on project Set up and roll out, performance assessments, as well as performance recovery teams where required.
Budget and Schedule Oversight: Oversee the creation of project budgets and detailed schedules. Monitor project expenditures and timelines, ensuring alignment with project plans. Identify variances and recommend corrective actions to keep projects on track.
Performance Reporting: Prepare and present regular project performance reports to senior management. This includes status updates, earned value analysis, cost forecasts, schedule progress, and variance analyses to support informed decision-making.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project control practices support overall project goals. Serve as the key liaison for project controls, facilitating clear communication and transparency on project status and issues.
Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of project control tools and processes. Implement improvements and new technologies as needed to increase efficiency, accuracy, and reporting capabilities in project delivery
What you'll bring to WSP:
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field.
Experience: 10+ years of experience in project controls, project management, or a related field, including at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role overseeing project control functions (scheduling, budgeting, cost control).
Project Controls Expertise: Proven track record in managing project budgets and schedules for complex, large-scale projects. Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and hands-on experience with project control software (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar tools).
Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and quantitative skills with meticulous attention to detail. Ability to perform in-depth cost analysis, schedule reviews, and risk assessments.
Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams. Strong organizational and decision-making skills, with a talent for prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Communication: Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. Capable of effectively presenting project status and complex data to senior executives and stakeholders. Able to facilitate collaboration across diverse teams and departments.
Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving aptitude with the ability to anticipate issues and proactively develop solutions. Familiarity with change management and the change order process in projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business Administration (MBA), or a related discipline.
Professional certification in project management or cost control, such as PMP (Project Management Professional) , PMI-SP (Scheduling Professional) , or AACE Certified Cost Professional (CCP) .
Experience establishing a project controls framework or improving project control systems within an organization.
Background in managing project controls in [relevant industry or sector, e.g. construction, engineering, infrastructure, IT] projects.
Proficiency in earned value management (EVM) and other advanced project performance measurement techniques.
