Working with one of our top financial clients, this role calls for an Investments/Mutual Fund Accountant- T2/T3 Taxation who will be responsible for preparing and reviewing financial statement reporting and taxation responsibilities for investment funds. The successful candidate will independently validate data, ensure compliance with Canadian tax legislation and regulatory requirements, and apply an analytical perspective to support accurate reporting and taxation processes. This role emphasizes producing results within a 3–6 month timeframe and ensuring data integrity across all reporting functions.

Responsibilities

  • Review financial statements to ensure they are prepared accurately, on time, and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and review T3 Returns and ensure timely, accurate filing in compliance with the Income Tax Act of Canada.
  • Prepare and review T2 Returns and ensure timely, accurate filing in compliance with the Income Tax Act of Canada.
  • Analyze the accounting and tax impact of complex corporate actions affecting funds in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Calculate and analyze income and capital gains distributions for Mutual Fund Trusts, Mutual Fund Corporations, and Pooled Funds, ensuring compliance with Canadian tax legislation.
  • Calculate and analyze tax factor calculations for each class or fund to support accurate T3 unitholder filings.
  • Ensure adherence to both company and regulatory requirements while supporting financial and taxation reporting integrity.

Desired Skill Set:

  • Strong comprehension of Canadian Income Tax Act and Canadian regulatory requirements.
  • Extensive investment fund accounting experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience preparing, reviewing, and analyzing financial statements for investment funds.
  • 3–5 years of experience preparing, reviewing, and analyzing investment fund distributions and tax returns for mutual fund trusts, unit trusts, and mutual fund corporations.
  • Solid knowledge of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) and Canadian tax regulations as applied to investment funds.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and related accounting software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, attention to detail, and strong critical thinking skills.
  • University degree or equivalent.
  • Accounting designation (CMA, CGA, CPA) preferred.
  • Canadian Securities Course (CSC) or IFIC designation.
  • Strong understanding of the investment industry, derivatives, and securities industry as they relate to financial reporting and taxation of trusts, corporations, and pooled funds.
  • Fundamental knowledge of taxation issues in the mutual fund industry.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Operational skills in automated network and application software tools, including external accounting/tax software.

Nice to Have:

  • Previous experience with TaxPrep software.
  • Accounting designation in progress or completed (CMA, CGA, CPA).
  • CIFC certification.
  • CSC certification.
