Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the permanent, fulltime position of Storesperson in Finance & Asset Management business unit. Reporting to the Inventory & Distribution Supervisor, the Storesperson is responsible for receiving, issuing, shipping and physical counts of inventoried and special-order materials. Ensuring service for clients in a safe, efficient manner, using various material handling equipment. The Storesperson provides a high level of customer service, providing materials and information requested or needed by clients. The Storesperson is responsible for the security, access control and general housekeeping duties within the designated controlled storage areas, maintaining a neat, orderly and safe work environment. The Storesperson may handle various inventory assets and commodities including specialized service materials, hazardous materials, general goods, and bulk items.
In addition to their key responsibilities, the Storesperson is expected to integrate established goals and objectives, recognize the roles and responsibilities within the supply chain process including the application of standardized programs and practices as they carry out their work by applying appropriate inventory and distribution processes and HRM's standardized workflow processes. Procurement staff are expected to advocate for and demonstrate the value of public procurement; to demonstrate a high level of professional values and ethics; to apply strict compliance with confidentiality and protection of information regulations; and to integrate the mission, vision and values of the Procurement department in everyday practice.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties and responsibilities of the Storesperson include but are not limited to the following:
- Accepts deliveries and unloads inbound inventory.
- Inspects and verifies incoming goods against paperwork, records and reports discrepancies and damaged goods.
- Receives and sorts incoming parts and supplies.
- Processes necessary ERP, asset management transactions and applicable paperwork.
- Issues parts and supplies to clients, ensuring proper procedures and any applicable approval or confirmation processes are complete prior to issuing items.
- Checks stock availability at other warehouse inventory locations, collaborates with other locations on available stock and arranges for product transfers as applicable.
- Verifies sufficient information is provided to Buyers for required materials.
- Prepares and packages items for shipment.
- Collaborates with Buyers and prepares materials and associated activities for returns to suppliers.
- Responsible for arranging logistics for outbound shipments as required.
- Manages notification of the arrival of special order and urgent requirement deliveries.
- Conducts ongoing inventory cycle counts ensuring accurate available product levels.
- Prepares for and participates in full physical inventory counts.
- Responsible for completing physical stocktaking investigations.
- Optimizes available space, physically relocating materials and associated ERP asset management software bin locations as required.
- Assists with any available material information for quotation.
- Maintains tool crib for tool loans and ensures tools are returns in serviceable condition through visual inspection.
- Performs routine housekeeping to ensure a clean, tidy and safe work environment.
- Maintains all storage areas in a safe and orderly manner.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in keeping with the Safety Data Sheet control protocols.
- Uses proper safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, including operating and working with material handling equipment, cutting tools, etc.
- Physical labour moving materials and equipment as required.
- Performs job-related tasks as directed by Supervisor, Inventory & Distribution, and at onsite department supervisor request.
- Assists and provides on- the-job training to other Storesperson personnel.
- This position must report to work during storms or Emergency Management Office (EMO) operations.
- Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
- Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent.
- One year of related job experience.
- Experience with an inventory management/ERP or asset management system.
- Knowledge and/or experience with automotive parts is an asset.
- Technical/Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
- Knowledge of inventory management and control practices.
- Basic knowledge of Health and Safety and procedures.
- Knowledge of automotive parts and automotive parts manuals.
- WHMIS Certification.
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

SALARY: $27.70 per hour. (CUPE Local 108)
