Position Summary:  Under the daily supervision of the Urban Justice Manager, the Family/Civil Justice Worker is responsible to provide community-determined conflict resolution services for civil or family related matters. The goal of the Program is to provide culturally responsive prevention and/or intervention strategies to help strengthen individuals and family units.  The position will primarily support community and self-referrals for family and civil mediation.Responsibilities:Manage the activities and functions of an assigned caseload;Provide mentorship, guidance and support to those referred to the Program and serve as a positive role model in the community;Use a holistic kinship model in the delivery of services to individuals and families;Work alongside Community Elders provide culturally sensitive dispute resolution services for non-criminal family and/or civil matters;Prepare all reports necessary to ensure client case management and follow-up in an efficient, effective and timely manner as determined by your supervisor;Develop community and kinship resources to assist individuals and/ or families in promoting healing and restoring harmony.Facilitate workshops and programs;Participate in justice programming, training and other Saskatoon Tribal Council events as assigned;Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all professional stakeholders including STC staff involved in the case plan;Work with other STC programs and staff as well as external agencies to provide appropriate supports for individual and/or family;Assist in development and completion of yearly work plans and activity reports; Maintain strict confidentiality on all files;Attend meetings as required and assigned; andPerform other related duties as defined and assigned by the reporting Director or designate on an as required basis.Working Environment: Standard office environment; regular travel (as required)Physical Demands: Freedom of movement; Keyboarding (>2 hrs at a time); ability to take breaks as necessary; Driving and sensory demands Health and Safety: Rights: All Saskatoon Tribal Council employees have the right to information on potential hazards in the workplace, the right to participate in Occupational Health and Safety decisions, use personal protective equipment and clothing as directed by the employer and the right to refuse dangerous work.Responsibilities: All employees must co-operate with the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Committee; remain alert to changes or events that might affect client or employee safety; report safety issues, accidents or injuries immediately; follow safe work practices, including the use of PPE; and use their training and knowledge to help other employees work safely as well.Education and Experience: Successful completion of human justice, sociology and/or social work degree/diploma or combination of education and work experience may be considered;Minimum of three years' experience in a related field;Family Mediation Training is an asset;Knowledge of the Court of King's Bench court process;The following training will be considered assets: Victim-Offender Mediation, Community Justice Forum, Suicide Intervention, First Aid, Critical Incident Debriefing, and Life Skills;Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities: Knowledge of current challenges Indigenous Peoples must contend with;Knowledge of community resources within the City of Saskatoon;Knowledgeable in Indigenous teachings, holistic model of health and wellness programs, specifically the Medicine Wheel Concept;Demonstrated knowledge of community-based programs and resources within the City of Saskatoon;Ability to advocate for youth and their families;Effective presentation and/or public speaking skills;Ability to prepare written reports;Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint with an ability to easily learn new software applications.Knowledge of the political, social and economic objectives of the Saskatoon Tribal Council and of the Dakota, Cree, and Saulteaux cultures will be considered an asset.Other Work Conditions: Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver's license, a reliable vehicle and meet STC's insurance requirements;Must provide a current, original, Canadian Criminal Record Check (CCRC) with vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment.Must be willing to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends, and to perform other related duties as required or assigned.
