The Senior Corporate Accountant has full responsibility for corporate accounting, audit support and tax compliance
Duties and responsibilities
· Responsible for external and internal financial reporting processes.
· Ensures compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
· Analyzes financial statements and other financial results.
· Responsible for Corporate business unit accounting.
· Analyzes data to support business decision-making.
· Prepares monthly and quarterly tax provisions including related journal entries and reconciliation.
· Responsible for assisting with Canadian and foreign jurisdiction corporate tax filings.
· Communicates as necessary with federal and provincial tax authorities to ensure tax returns are assessed and/or reassessed correctly.
· Assists with tax-related enquiries from other departments or tax advisors.
· Assists with tax planning opportunities.
· Liaises with the financial team leaders of the Company's individual business units.
· Liaises with external auditors in regards to financial reporting and tax-specific inquiries.
Qualifications
· BSc/BA in Accounting, Finance or related field
· Canadian CPA designation.
· 3-5 years post-designation experience, preferably in a public company environment.
· Working knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards.
· Working knowledge of Canadian commodity and income tax legislations.
· Ability to quickly learn and adapt in a new environment
· A solid financial acumen, strong analytical and problem solving skills.
· Able to research, document and recommend appropriate tax and accounting treatment for complex transactions.
· Multi-jurisdictional and multi-currency experience is an asset.
· Superior communication skills, both orally and in written memos and other forms of communication.
· Detail-oriented, organized, and able to meet internal and external reporting deadlines.
· Able to develop and maintain strong working relationships across many departments and business units of the Company.
· Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and ability to learn to use various reporting tools to extract and present information from the Company's accounting records
