About us:
Founded in 1960, the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa (YSB) is one of the largest and most comprehensive non-profit agencies in Ottawa and a registered charity. It provides mental health services, employment programs, emergency shelter, community, health and housing services, and justice programs to youth in the Ottawa area, serving between 2,500 and 3,000 at‑risk individuals aged 12+ and their families every month. YSB employs 400 caring professionals in a unionized environment in over 21 locations across Ottawa.
CHEO, The Royal, Le Cap and Youth Services Bureau have partnered to develop an integrated intensive Youth Mental Health Live in Treatment Program to address the needs of youth and their families who are experiencing complex and persistent mental health issues. The treatment team, Step Up Step Down, provides integrated and intensive treatment and services in a live-in community setting. The services are designed to help avert hospitalization and support an intensive program to support youth to stabilize with mental health goals. The goal of The Step-Up Step-Down Program is to address the existing gap in focused services for youth 12-17 years. The Program is Licensed by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Operations the Coordinator is responsible for the overall functioning and operation of the Step Up Step Down program in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the Youth Services Bureau.
What you will do:
Staff & Program Related
- Support the effective recruitment, orientation, supervision, evaluation & training of unit personnel and student placement as assigned by Director/Assistant director
- Provide individual and group supervision on a monthly, biweekly and/or weekly basis as required
- Provide clinical consultation to SUSD team and monitor client files
- Provide clinical supervision to the SUSD psychotherapist
- Complete annual employee performance review and work plan for assigned staff
- Oversee and ensure the smooth day to day operations of the SUSD unit including the delegation of and coordination of essential daily activities.
- Facilitate unit staff meetings, client case reviews and team huddles to assess program and client needs/outcomes
- Ensure timely preparation of staff schedules and that scheduling needs are fulfilled
- Coordinate all assigned project activities
- Participate in and or deliver public education on program services & issues related to youth mental health
- Liaise with other services within YSB and within the community and participate in meetings as required
- Contribute to program evaluation & service development including the identification of trends with program area
- Contribute to Quality Assurance activities and reports and participate in research activities as required.
- In conjunction with Director or Assistant Director, works with Program Funders on program related activities
- Ensure safe working practices are followed as established by YSB and the Program
- Ensure compliance with Agency Policies and Procedures, Program Policies, Licensing, Collective Agreement and relevant legislation
- Participate in regularly scheduled on call services
- Coordinate distribution of marketing materials to clients, partner agencies and community
Clinical/Client
- Oversee and monitor effective clinical case management, treatment and transition plans of SUSD clients
- Provide direct clinical services to clients as required including admission/transition planning
- Support programs as required including emergency floor coverage for unplanned staffing shortages
- Ensure proper completion of serious Occurrences, CAS reports, Incident Report
- Ensure follow-up on client complaints
- Facilitate client case review meetings
- Facilitate and coordinate client referrals with partner organizations
- Oversee High Risk/ imminent risk assessment and ensure proper safety plans and follow-up plans are in place
Central Services/Administration
- Ensure all administrative tasks are completed on time and in accordance with unit & YSB policies, including preparation of schedules, shift summaries, discrepancy reports, submission of payroll and approvals of time off requests
- Prepare reports & statistical report documentation or other reports as required by director or program funders
- Ensure electronic and physical files are maintained and current within established guidelines
- Participate in the selection of staff with Human Resources
- Support the administration of budget & be accountable for spending
- Prepare for licensing and accreditation as required
- Maintain petty cash, bus ticket and taxi chits supply for program/client needs
- Maintain inventory supplies
- Maintain physical plant and equipment
- Maintain the program's policies and procedures
- Support with all Ministry requirements
This opportunity may be right for you if you have:
- Master's Degree in Social Work or relevant field coupled with registration in good standing with a college authorized to practice the Controlled Act of Psychotherapy
- Minimum 5 years clinical experience working with youth experiencing symptoms of mental illness.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a supervisory role in a related setting or field
- Possess qualified training or certificate of standing for the act of clinical supervision as described by their college or meets the criteria to obtain this certification
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a leadership role within the context of an interdisciplinary team
- Knowledge of ministries, guidelines, legislations, regulations and requirements
- Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Proven organizational and administrative skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of community partnerships and child and youth mental health and youth addiction services
- Knowledge of various therapeutic approaches as well as intervention strategies and techniques
- Knowledge of mental health and behavioral issues in youth
- Knowledge of YSB Programs and Activities as well as Policies and Procedures
- Oral and written fluency in English and French are essential
- Availability and ability to work evenings, flexible hours and assume on-call responsibilities as required
- Demonstrated computer skills, including Outlook and PowerPoint
- Access to a vehicle.
Additional Qualifications:
- Successful applicants will be required to provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Check or Broad Police check obtained within the past six (6) months, as a condition of employment with YSB.
- To confirm language proficiency required for this position, successful candidates may be requested to undergo an oral and written assessment conducted by a third-party provider, arranged by YSB. Candidates must meet the minimum required linguistic profile before their employment start date.
