Electronics Designer
to join their team on-site in
Oakville, Ontario.

This is a two-year contract position.

The Electronics Designer will lead the development of advanced electronic circuits and embedded systems that power our client's products. The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise in FPGA and firmware design, microcontroller-based systems, analog signal amplification, photomultiplier tube (PMT) interface circuitry, Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) technologies, and remote-control system integration. This role is ideal for a hands-on designer who thrives on solving complex problems, from concept and prototype to production-ready solutions.

Some of your key responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Designing, developing, and testing digital and analog electronic circuits, including FPGA-based systems, microcontroller firmware, and analog front-end amplifier circuits.
  • Developing and optimizing circuits for photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) and related high-voltage, low-noise signal acquisition systems.
  • Designing and implementing remote control and monitoring circuitry, including Power over Ethernet (PoE) interfaces and communication protocols.
  • Leading technical ownership of hardware design, including schematic capture, PCB layout supervision, prototype assembly, and verification testing.
  • Developing test plans and procedures to validate hardware performance and reliability under various operating conditions.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary design reviews and contributing to system-level architecture decisions.
  • Collaborating closely with firmware, software, and mechanical teams to ensure seamless integration and product functionality.
  • Researching and selecting components for performance, reliability, availability, and cost-effectiveness, including management of component obsolescence.
  • Supporting design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) initiatives to improve production quality and reduce costs.
  • Providing technical support to Service, Production, and Sales teams during product rollout and throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Generating and maintaining design documentation, including Gerber files, schematics, and BOMs.
  • Performing hands-on debugging, assembly, and repair as required.
  • Sourcing and qualifying electronic components within the global supply chain.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Engineering, Electronics Design, or equivalent discipline.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in electronic circuit design, development, and prototyping.

Demonstrated expertise in:

  • FPGA design and implementation (VHDL/Verilog)
  • Microcontroller and embedded firmware development (C/C++), including low-level integration, configuration, and management of onboard memory (e.g., Flash, EEPROM, and RAM) to optimize system performance, and reliability.
  • Analog signal amplifiers and low-noise circuit design
  • Photomultiplier tube (PMT) interface and signal conditioning
  • PoE circuitry and remote-control systems
  • Strong understanding of mixed-signal design principles, including grounding, noise isolation, and EMC/EMI mitigation.
  • Experience with PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer, OrCAD, KiCad) and simulation software.
  • Experience with integrating and designing with Texas Instruments (TI) microcontrollers, analog ICs, and reference designs for embedded and signal processing applications.
  • Knowledge of electronic manufacturing processes, quality control, and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced R&D environment.

Working Environment:

Most work is performed in an office and laboratory environment, with occasional activities on the production floor and limited travel to customer sites. This is a full-time, two-year contract position (40 hours per week). All work-related expenses are reimbursed.
