SafeHouse Science Inc. – Kano Health & Wellness (St. Albert, Alberta)

SafeHouse Science Inc. is strengthening its national clinical model and expanding veteran-centered services across Canada. As part of this growth, we are recruiting a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join the team at Kano Health & Wellness - one of SafeHouse's foundational clinics serving veterans, first responders, and civilian patients requiring trauma-informed, complex-care support.

This role is designed for an NP who wants to do more than deliver clinical care. You will help shape how the NP position supports and influences SafeHouse's evolving interdisciplinary model of care. You'll work within a trauma-informed, veteran-focused environment built on collaboration, clarity, and coordinated clinical pathways.

If you want to practice at full scope while helping build a system that restores dignity and improves access for those who have served, this is a meaningful opportunity.

About the Role

As a Nurse Practitioner with SafeHouse/Kano, you will operate as an autonomous medical provider and collaborate daily with physicians, social workers, RN case managers, mental and physical health clinicians, and operational leaders. You will provide care to veterans, first responders, and civilians navigating complex medical, psychological, or trauma-related conditions, ensuring each patient experiences continuity and clarity at every step of the SafeHouse care pathway.

You'll be supported by structured clinical workflows, strong operational leadership, and a care environment designed so veterans experience continuity and clarity at every step.

You are stepping into a model that is actively expanding, both in volume and in sophistication, and your clinical insight will directly influence how SafeHouse continues to integrate NPs within its broader care ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

● Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for veteran, first responder, and civilian patients, managing both acute and chronic conditions within NP scope.

● Assess, diagnose, and independently treat medical conditions within NP scope.

● Order and interpret laboratory investigations, diagnostic imaging, and specialized assessments.

● Prescribe medications and manage pharmacotherapy.

● Perform minor procedures as clinically appropriate.

● Provide ongoing follow-up, chronic disease management, and longitudinal care to veterans, first responders, and civilians requiring trauma-informed primary care.

Documentation & Veteran Affairs (VAC) Requirements

● This role includes documentation responsibilities for both veteran and civilian patient

encounters, with VAC-specific requirements applying only to eligible veteran files.

● Complete all clinical documentation, including VAC forms, BPA/DTC paperwork, medical

assessments, and EMR notes (Accuro).

● Ensure high-quality, timely documentation aligned with VAC and Medavie Blue Cross standards.

● Support billing workflows relevant to NP scope and VAC-funded services.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Model Development

● Participate in interdisciplinary case reviews, care planning, and quality improvement initiatives across veteran, first responder, and civilian patient groups to ensure safe, coordinated progression through the care pathway.

● Collaborate closely with RN Case Managers and Social Workers to ensure veterans move

smoothly through the SafeHouse care pathway.

● Provide education, follow-up, and ongoing support to veterans and their families.

● Help identify opportunities to strengthen clinical pathways, reduce bottlenecks, and improve care delivery.

Clinical Leadership

● Contribute to the evolution of SafeHouse's national integrated care model.

● Mentor team members on trauma-informed practice, documentation standards, and

coordinated care delivery.

● Support medical leadership in scaling the NP role across additional clinics.

What You Bring

● Licensed Nurse Practitioner in good standing in Alberta.

● Authorized to practice in Family/All-Ages, Adult, or comparable NP stream

● Experience in trauma, veteran care, MSK, chronic disease, or mental health (preferred)

● Experience supporting both veteran and civilian patient groups in primary care, mental health, or complex-care environments is an asset.

● Experience with veteran care or VAC documentation, including POC-6 and Medavie Blue Cross is considered an asset (training provided)

● Strong clinical decision-making and autonomy within an interdisciplinary team

● Outstanding communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.

● A desire to help shape an evolving, mission-driven clinical model.

Compensation & Benefits

● Competitive compensation commensurate with experience

● Flexible scheduling options within an interdisciplinary clinical environment

● Our clinical volume, veteran caseload, and interdisciplinary care model support full-time practice hours, and we prioritize candidates seeking long-term, stable integration into the SafeHouse team. We can accommodate flexible scheduling where clinically appropriate.

● Vacation, sick time, and wellness supports

Schedule & Location

● Full-time on-site role.

● Based at Kano Health & Wellness, St. Albert, Alberta.

● Schedule set in collaboration with the CMO and Clinic Manager.

● Occasional travel for training or SafeHouse-wide initiatives (optional).
