Role Summary:

The Investment Quantitative Specialist is a key member of the Investments team, positioned to drive innovation and strengthen our technical depth in investments. This role combines programming, data management, and quantitative analysis to support research, risk analysis, and portfolio construction.

Working closely with senior leaders and team leads, the Investment Quantitative Specialist will play a hands-on role in building and optimizing data systems, streamlining reporting, and delivering actionable insights that shape investment strategies. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by blending analytical expertise with financial knowledge to enhance decision-making and support the future growth of CST's investment products.

What you will be doing:

  • Play a leading role in building out the investment research and analytics functions, shaping new capabilities that enhance portfolio construction, risk management, and decision-making.
  • Drive the adoption of institutional-grade investment processes and tools to support the department's transformation.
  • Streamline and automate operational workflows related to CST's investment mandates, including rebalancing, liquidity management, trading and performance analytics.
  • Develop and maintain streamlined frameworks for performance measurement, attribution, and analytics.
  • Help build, enhance and maintain internal portfolio construction and risk management frameworks for existing and future products.
  • Centralize, build and manage the investment database, collaborating with IT to integrate it into the corporate database over the medium term.
  • Enhance risk and performance dashboards for reporting to internal and external stakeholders, including the Board of Directors.
  • Address gaps in quant/programming capacity and upgrade investment's internal systems (i.e. primarily excel-based).
  • Support and lead quantitative research and analytical projects for Spark, CSTAM and the broader product suite.
  • Support operational workstreams in portfolio and risk management across investment mandates.
  • Help strengthen the investment governance framework.
  • Collaborate with Technology, Compliance, and Finance to modernize data infrastructure and reporting.
  • Support the investment team on ad hoc projects and contribute to the department's strategic vision and transformation initiatives.

What you bring:

  • 5+ years of experience in data analytics, quantitative research, risk management, asset management, investment consulting, capital markets, or pension investment environments with a focus on programming, quantitative analysis and/or portfolio construction.
  • Undergraduate degree in a quantitative or analytical field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Finance, Economics or a related degree.
  • Graduate degree (Master's level) in Statistics, Math, Economics, Financial Engineering, Data Science, or a related STEM field would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in automating / streamlining investment related workflows and implementing advanced analytics.
  • Experience working with large data sets is an asset.
  • Having or working towards a CFA designation preferred, with having FRM or CAIA considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used in finance (e.g., Python, R, C++).
  • Familiarity with SQL or other database query tools and strong Excel skills.
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other data visualization platforms is an asset.
  • Comfortable working with one or more of the portfolio management systems and risk tools such as Bloomberg, MSCI Barra, RiskManager, AlphaDesk, Refinitiv (LSEG Data & Analytics).
  • Demonstrated ability to work with investment and risk data, performance reporting, performance attribution analysis, and portfolio analytics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, collaborative working style, cross-functional experience and ability to support multiple team leads (e.g., Directors) effectively and ability to synthesize complex investment or operational challenges into actionable insights.
