Your role:
The Assistant Manager, Financial Reporting will support the Manager, Financial Reporting in completing full cycle accounting and meeting monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements. In this role, you will be also responsible for identifying key issues and priorities and directly assisting the Manager, Financial Reporting and senior management in making solid financial decisions based on sound business metrics and professional judgment. You will review work prepared by other members of the Financial Reporting team, prepare more senior and technical complex analyses and tasks, research accounting issues, and take a hands-on role in year-end audits, monthly/quarterly/annual reporting and other ad hoc financial analyses.
Your responsibilities:
- Manage the successful completion of financial month end close. Responsible for ensuring timely and accurate completion of month-end milestones, working cross-functionally with the Financial Reporting, Tax, AP, Billing, and Payroll teams
- Oversee the timely and accurate preparation and review of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and reporting packages for key stakeholders
- Supervise the timely preparation and posting of financial transactions throughout the month.
- Coordinate and oversee timely and accurate monthly analysis and reporting of variances between actual and budgeted revenues, margins, capital expenditures and recommend any corrective measures required to contain variances
- Drive a culture of operational efficiency and reporting accuracy, focused on continually reducing reporting lead times
- Champion data integrity and continuous enhancement of reporting systems, ensuring consistency across global entities
- Interpret and apply complex accounting standards for new or unusual transactions; provide recommendations and document conclusions
- Maintain and enhance the company's accounting policies, ensuring compliance with changes in accounting standards or regulatory requirements
- Develop, monitor, and report on Key Performance Indicators on a timely basis to senior management
- Prepare and review working papers and analysis for monthly financial reporting, annual audit requirements and bank reporting requirements for compliance purposes
- Support complex revenue recognition analyses, including multi-element arrangements, subscription models, usage-based billing, and long-term contracts
- Maintain and oversee statutory financial statement reporting requirements for Canadian entities and foreign subsidiaries (US, UK, Sweden, Spain, Australia, Singapore, etc.)
- Act as a main point of contact with external auditors and accounting service providers, responding to external requests and queries
- Compile ad hoc data extracts and reports in response to various inquiries from management, customers, auditors, regulatory authorities and other government agencies
- Prepare and review annual or ad hoc accounting memos and analyses as required
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and cash flow forecasts
- Coach and share best practices with junior team members
About you:
- Qualified professional accountant (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) with a strong work ethic and integrity
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting and finance in a role of similar level of responsibilities
- Familiarity with NetSuite or other enterprise-scale cloud-based ERP systems is an asset
- Strong knowledge of ASPE and IFRS (or US GAAP) with demonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex accounting standards
- Experience in full cycle accounting in the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) subscription billing environment is an asset
- Ability to navigate a dynamic, high-growth, technology-driven environment, while maintaining accuracy and control discipline
- Experience in managing people and financial operations is an asset
- Proven history of excellence and timeliness in external and internal financial reporting
- Comfort working with large data sets, including the ability to validate, reconcile, and analyze data efficiently
- Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities with experience in researching and preparing technical accounting memos
- Advanced level MS Excel proficiency, with advanced knowledge of Word and PowerPoint
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time
- Impeccable accuracy with numbers and attention to detail
- Clear understanding of financial KPIs for SaaS businesses
- Ability to exercise tact and discretion and to be entrusted with confidential information
- Ability to thrive in a fast moving, fast growth entrepreneurial environment, have a 'solution based' mind set, and be proactive in driving improvements to processes and systems
Compensation:
Global Relay advertises the pay range for this role in compliance with British Columbia's pay transparency laws. Individual pay rates are determined by evaluating factors such as expertise, skills, education, and professional background.
The range below reflects the expected annual base salary, which is only one element of our comprehensive total rewards package designed to reflect our company pay philosophy, culture and values. We aim to foster an inspiring work environment and support employees' work-life rhythms. We provide a comprehensive extended health benefits program, including virtual healthcare and a wellness allowance. Employees also receive annual allotted vacation days, which increase based on tenure.
