About The Opportunity
The Program Specialist, Healthy Communities works with team members and partners to support initiatives that protect and promote health, reduce health inequities and address the determinants of health. The Program Specialist synthesizes data and evidence and uses knowledge translation tools to support the Healthy Communities program in application of comprehensive, evidence informed policies and strategies.
Responsibilities
The Program Specialist provides leadership and advanced knowledge in health promotion, policy development and public health theory and practice to support the implementation of the Healthy Communities program throughout the province. The position is responsible for:
- Providing expert level advice, evidence and best practice on advancing the understanding of healthy communities work .
- Managing projects and coordinating teams working on a specific content issue.
- Retrieving, assessing and synthesizing complex research findings to inform knowledge translation tools and capacity building opportunities.
- Developing policy and practice tools to support healthy communities program, health promoting schools and healthy public policy work.
About You
- Bachelor's degree in health promotion or other relevant field with 5 years relevant experience
- Masters in public health, health promotion or other relevant field with 3 years relevant experience
- Knowledge of social determinant of health, awareness and study of one's own power and privilege and, appropriate public health approaches to reduce health inequities.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders using a variety of methods.
- Success in building strategic partnerships, networks, coalitions, and collaborative working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners to support health equity work.
- Judgment, decision making, and problem solving skills
- Project management, planning and time management skills. Ability to work flexibly and with competing priorities.
- Strong group facilitation and process skills.
- Experience in evidence informed practice, conducting evidence reviews and producing evidence briefs.
- Demonstrated proficiency in LEADS
- Demonstrated innovative systems thinking with an understanding of working with communities
- High standards of ethics, integrity, respect and accountability.
- Action oriented and strong ability to complete time sensitive tasks.
- Competencies in other languages an asset

Compensation And Benefits
$ $48.54 hourly
Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
