Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable and safety-focused
Metal Refining Furnace Operator
to join our industrial metals team in Markham. This role involves operating high-temperature furnaces to melt, refine, and process metals according to production specifications. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to workplace safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor furnaces (e.g., electric-arc, induction, gas, oil, coal) for metal melting and refining.
  • Regulate fuel, air, electric current, and coolant flow to maintain optimal furnace conditions.
  • Draw and analyze metal samples to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Weigh and load raw materials into furnaces.
  • Remove impurities such as slag and dross from molten metal.
  • Record production data and maintain accurate logs.
  • Inspect and maintain furnace equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Collaborate with production and quality teams to meet output goals.
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1–2 years of experience in furnace operation or metal refining preferred.
  • Ability to work in high-temperature and physically demanding environments.
  • Basic understanding of metal properties and refining processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends.

Work Environment

  • Industrial plant setting with exposure to heat, noise, and contaminants.
  • Daily use of safety equipment: gloves, hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection.
  • Physical work involving lifting, standing, and repetitive tasks.
