Accounting Associate

Mohawk Medbuy Corporation (MMC) is a national, not-for-profit, shared services organization that supports hundreds of health care providers across Canada, as well as child welfare agencies and other public sector organizations. MMC provides value-driven contracting and procurement solutions for medical/surgical supplies, pharmaceutical products, local sourcing, capital (equipment, FF&E and redevelopment) and nutrition solutions. Other services include data analytics, in-hospital support, warehousing/logistics, technology, procure-to-pay, and accounts payable.

With an emerging focus on sustainability and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, MMC is actively supporting the creation of a resilient value chain that incorporates environmental, social and governance best practices. Based in Burlington, ON, the organization also has offices in Toronto, Thunder Bay, Kingston, Brantford, London and Chatham, and a distribution centre in Oakville.

We are currently recruiting for Accounting Associate to support our Finance team.

Position Overview

The Accounting Associate is an important role in Financial Services. Reporting to the Manager, Finance, the Accounting Associate supports the accuracy and integrity of the organization's financial records. They also leverage their skills and competencies to support the delivery of financial results. The role provides support for financial analysis, ledger reconciliations and the application of accounting principles to analyze financial information. The Accounting Associate will support the maintenance of financial controls and processes. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting
    • Assist in the preparation of financial information, including financial statements and reports
    • Prepare journal entries and reconciliations
    • Document and maintain records for financial transactions
    • Analyze financial data to identify trends
    • Support the coordination of information for the external auditors
  • Accounting Operations
    • Supporting day-to-day accounting operations, including settling accounts with members, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries
    • Supports the Accounts Payable team with invoice coding and allocations
    • Processing transactions and maintaining accurate accounting records
    • Assist and support month end and year end close processes
  • Vendor Submission Management
    • Downloading vendor submissions
    • Resolving vendor submission issues
    • Following up on missed vendor submissions

Qualifications and Skills

  • Detail-oriented in preparation, analysis and review of financial information.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly adaptable to changes in urgency, timelines and/ or priorities that meet current business needs.
  • Good communication skills in both verbal and written to various levels of management as the intended audience.
  • Ability to learn systems of record (Microsoft Business Central an asset)
  • Ability to work independently when required as well as maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and ensure the privacy of financial records
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute multiple priorities
  • Exceptional customer service orientation
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Education, Training, and Experience

Mandatory

  • University degree, college diploma, or equivalent (3 years) in Business, Finance and/or Accounting
  • Desire to pursue a professional accounting designation of CPA, or a keen interest in furthering accounting and finance skill sets
  • Minimum 1-2 years' related work experience
  • Proficiency in Excel working with datasets (pivot tables, advanced formulas).

Preferred

  • Experience with Microsoft Business Central and Power BI, is an asset

Travel

  • Ability to travel to Mohawk Medbuy offices if required.
