Winnipeg MB RB V, Canada Roots Youth Care Full time $51,820 - $179,780 per year

Position Summary

The Psychologist at Roots Youth Care plays a vital role in supporting the emotional and psychological well-being of youth living in our residential programs. You will conduct psychological assessments, provide therapy, and guide our interdisciplinary teams in creating environments that promote stability, healing, and personal growth.

You'll collaborate with program leadership, behavioural therapists, and front-line staff to ensure that interventions and care strategies reflect a deep understanding of trauma, attachment, and developmental needs.

This role is ideal for a clinician who believes in relational care—someone who sees the humanity behind every behaviour and strives to build bridges of trust and understanding.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Clinical Assessment & Intervention

  2. Conduct psychological assessments and diagnostics to understand cognitive, emotional, and behavioural functioning.

  3. Provide individual and group therapy to youth, emphasizing trauma-informed and strength-based methods.
  4. Develop individualized treatment plans that align with Roots' holistic framework and provincial care standards.
  5. Identify and address barriers to learning, regulation, and social functioning.

2. Team Consultation & Collaboration

  • Work closely with House Managers, Behavioural Therapists, and front-line staff to integrate psychological insights into daily routines.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences with social workers, clinicians, and provincial stakeholders.
  • Provide clinical coaching to staff teams to ensure interventions are consistent, empathetic, and evidence-informed.
  • Offer psychological consultation to support care planning and behavioural interventions.

3. Capacity Building & Education

  • Deliver training sessions to staff on trauma-informed practice, emotional regulation, attachment, and youth development.
  • Support the design of clinical protocols and documentation systems that reflect both accountability and compassion.
  • Mentor youth care teams in recognizing emotional and behavioural cues that indicate underlying psychological needs.

4. Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare psychological reports and summaries for CFS agencies, clinicians, and other external partners.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records of assessments, progress, and treatment outcomes.
  • Provide input for program development, evaluation, and improvement initiatives within Roots.

Qualifications

Education: Doctorate (PhD or PsyD) or Master's Degree in Psychology from an accredited institution.

Licensure: Registered or eligible for registration with the Psychological Association of Manitoba (PAM).

Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience working with youth and families in residential or therapeutic settings.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong understanding of trauma, attachment theory, and adolescent development.
  • Competence in psychological testing, diagnosis, and therapeutic intervention.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication, teaching, and report-writing skills.
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience in emotionally complex situations.

Preferred Training

  • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
  • Applied Behavioural Analysis principles
  • Non-Violent Physical Intervention or CPI knowledge and certification
  • Experience supporting neurodivergent youth (ASD, ADHD, FASD)

Organizational Fit

At Roots Youth Care, we value more than credentials—we value connection.

We're looking for a psychologist who is grounded, relational, and culturally aware—someone who can see past crisis moments and work collaboratively to help youth reframe their stories.

Our ideal candidate believes that structure and love can coexist, that healing begins in consistency, and that every interaction has the power to change a trajectory.
