ACADEMIC PROGRAM ADVISOR – Health Care Aide Workplace
FACULTY OF HEALTH STUDIES
Reporting to the Academic Program Manager, the Academic Program Advisor carries out a range of activities that fall under particular categories, namely: student program advising, student engagement, student success triage and intervention, key program area contact for recruitment, liaison to the Office of the Registrar and Student Services, partner with the program leadership team and leading projects.
This position requires a high degree of responsibility, accountability, initiative, and leadership in a variety of operational areas. Excellent communication and liaising skills are required in order to work with students, internal college areas, and external stakeholders, when required.
This position requires an advanced level of knowledge about the assigned program(s') architecture, program regulatory standards and course sequencing, as well as admission processes both at the college and at other post-secondary institutions (PSIs). The advisor will maintain relationships with PSI partners for the purpose of ensuring up-to-date information and to facilitate student transfer credit pathways.
This position requires written and spoken respectful communication with students on a daily basis. This position requires collaborative work, exceptional relationship-building abilities, and a demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively in tight timelines or in stressful situations.
The Advisor works with potential students applying to the HCA Workplace program. The advisor works with matriculated students individually to assess their academic needs, resolve program academic matters and goals and to monitor their academic progression throughout the program.
This position requires an extensive knowledge of complex systems and how they interact, such as PeopleSoft (internal), as well as a broad knowledge of how both operational and academic policies and procedures guide student life at NorQuest.
This position requires initiative, organization and research skills as well as high level of proficiency with MS Office Suite including use of Excel. The advisor will conduct research to suggest policy and procedure changes, and, under the APM's direction, will lead these changes.
This position is tied to an instructional contract for .5 FTE term position (part-time) (flexible workstyle) posting from November 1, January 15, 2027.

- Advise students individually on academic and career pathways, creating success plans and providing ongoing support.
- Monitor student progress and proactively intervene to address academic issues before escalation.
- Coordinate orientation activities and serve as a primary contact for student and instructor support.
- Communicate with employer sponsors regarding student sponsorships, admissions, and tutoring needs.
- Support course scheduling, enrolment coordination, and distribution of curriculum materials in partnership with the Registrar's Office.
- Track student progression from enrolment through to exam completion and graduation, generating reports to guide student success.
- Lead communication and follow-up for changes to student enrolment paths and sponsorship agreements.
- Collaborate on projects related to learner pathways, regulatory reporting, and recruitment activities for workplace-based programs.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Completion of a Bachelor's (Undergraduate) Degree from an accredited post- secondary institution or a combination of relevant education and experience
- 3 plus years of related advising and/or student support experience in a post-secondary environment
- Proficient in program architecture, curriculum, course sequencing, pathways, Health Care Aide regulatory body standards and regulatory policies for related faculty.
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Advanced knowledge of computer systems, including PeopleSoft and Microsoft Office
- Ability to forge and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Proven process improvement experience
- Accountability and responsibility, including the ability to work independently and complete tasks to deadline
- Demonstrated understanding of equity, diversity, inclusion, antiracism, including the needs of Indigenous, International, and immigrant learners.

- Oversight of financial tracking related to sponsorship contracts and student repayment agreements.
- The ability to maintain strategic relationships by managing a repository of workplace employers and collaborating across internal departments.
