We are seeking an experienced
Akamai Web Application Security Subject Matter Expert (SME)
to design, implement, and manage Akamai security solutions that safeguard our digital platforms. The ideal candidate will have deep hands-on experience with Akamai's suite of web security products—especially
Kona Site Defender, Bot Manager, WAF, Edge DNS, and API security
—along with strong knowledge of web application and network security principles.

equired Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience
    with Akamai security solutions, including
    Kona Site Defender (KSD), Bot Manager, Edge DNS, and Akamai WAF
    .
  • Strong understanding of
    web application architecture
    ,
    HTTP/HTTPS
    ,
    API security
    ,
    CDN operations
    , and
    edge computing concepts
    .
  • Solid knowledge of
    OWASP Top 10
    ,
    DDoS mitigation
    ,
    SSL/TLS
    ,
    firewalls
    , and
    zero trust principles
    .
  • Experience with
    Akamai Luna Control Center
    and
    Akamai APIs for automation and configuration management
    .
  • Familiarity with
    SIEM tools
    ,
    threat intelligence feeds
    , and
    incident response workflows
    .
  • Scripting or automation experience (e.g., Python, Bash, Terraform, or Akamai CLI) is a strong plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to
    translate technical security issues
    into business impacts and recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, deploy, and optimize
    Akamai web application security solutions including WAF, Kona Site Defender, and Bot Manager.
  • Act as the
    primary technical lead and SME
    for Akamai security integrations across enterprise web applications and APIs.
  • Analyze web traffic patterns
    , identify vulnerabilities, and fine-tune Akamai policies to mitigate threats such as DDoS, bots, and OWASP Top 10 attacks.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, Security Operations, and Application teams
    to embed security controls and best practices within SDLC and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Monitor and respond
    to security incidents and events detected through Akamai dashboards, SIEM tools, or alerts.
  • Maintain and enhance configurations
    , including rate limiting, caching, rule sets, access controls, and SSL/TLS management.
  • Provide
    technical documentation, runbooks, and knowledge transfer
    for security operations teams.
  • Partner with Akamai technical account managers and support teams for product updates, tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Stay current with
    emerging threats, Akamai roadmap updates, and industry best practices
    in web and API security.
