The Role
Reporting to the Supervisor of Operations Accounting - Marketing, this position will be responsible for the end-to-end recording, reporting, and analysis for a business unit results including accurate and efficient completion of monthly accounting records. This includes journal entries, results reports, and account reconciliations as well as investigation and documentation of variances between actual and forecasted results. This individual should have a strong attention to detail and understanding of accounting standards impacting the oil and gas industry.
What You Will Do
- Compilation, analysis, reconciliation, and distribution of monthly operating results package.
- Prepare general ledger journal entries based on monthly, quarterly, and annual requirements.
- Assisting with preparation and validation of annualized budget and monthly forecasts for the business unit.
- Develop and maintain accounting models to streamline accounting process and support further automation of manual processes.
- Work collaboratively with other business units and functions to ensure reliability of financial results.
- Evaluation and communication of financial results and operational data and analysis.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist with audit queries received from external and internal auditors.
- Participates in the testing and implementation of new system releases.
- Prepare and maintain up-to-date desk training manuals.
- Responsibility to ad hoc reporting and analysis.
What You'll Bring To The Role
- Bachelor of Commerce or equivalent degree.
- Minimum 3 years of related work experience.
- Currently holding a CPA designation or pursuit thereof is an asset.
- Knowledge of the crude oil industry is an asset.
- Experience in the use of relational database systems and proficient with Windows-based applications including Excel, Word and database software.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and the Right Angle ERPs are an asset.
- Process improvement mindset with the ability to follow through with implementation.
- Ability to effectively interact with individuals within the company in the Calgary and field offices.

Gibson Energy Operates Through Two Main Segments
- Infrastructure: This includes terminals, marine loading, rail loading and unloading facilities, gathering pipelines, a diluent recovery unit, and a crude oil processing facility. Key facilities within this segment include the Hardisty, Edmonton, and Ingleside Terminals, as well as gathering pipelines in the United States and a crude oil processing facility in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
- Marketing: This involves the purchasing, selling, storing, and optimizing of hydrocarbon products.
Gibson Energy has a strong presence in the United States, due to the acquisition of the Gateway Terminal in Ingleside, Texas. This terminal is a world-class liquids terminal and export facility with very large crude carrier (VLCC) capabilities and direct pipeline connections to key basins like the Permian and Eagle Ford. The acquisition strengthens Gibson's cash flow with over 95% of the revenue under take-or-pay contracts with high-quality counterparties.
