Position Overview:
We're looking for an experienced and motivated Junior Sous Chef / Kitchen Supervisor to join our afternoon production team. This role blends hands-on cooking with leadership responsibilities, focusing on batch production, food safety, and team coordination. You'll help manage the flow of our afternoon shift, ensuring that every dish we prepare — from sauces to entrées — reflects Market 49's commitment to chef-quality frozen food.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the afternoon kitchen team in large-batch cooking, cooling, and packaging of menu items including entrées, sauces, soups, and sides.
- Oversee the afternoon workflow, ensuring efficiency, quality, and smooth transitions between shifts.
- Execute recipes accurately and consistently while maintaining exceptional taste and texture standards.
- Manage ingredient prep, portioning, and production timing to maximize yield and minimize waste.
- Conduct daily quality and food safety checks; ensure accurate labeling, organization, and documentation.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant kitchen environment in accordance with Fraser Health standards.
- Communicate with the Day Sous Chef, Production Manager, and Owner regarding production goals, inventory needs, and team performance.
- Train and mentor newer kitchen staff in Market 49's production methods and company standards.
- Support menu and product development initiatives, offering feedback and ideas to improve efficiency and flavor.
Qualifications:
- 2–3 years of professional kitchen experience in a high-volume or production setting.
- Strong understanding of batch cooking, portion control, and cold storage management.
- Proven leadership skills and the ability to manage a small team effectively.
- Food Safe Level 1 required; Level 2 an asset.
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen.
- Positive, collaborative attitude and a strong sense of pride in your work.

Pay: $20.00-$24.00 per hour
