Position Summary

The Industrial Supervisor oversees field operations and staff across multiple trades: welders, millwrights, pipefitters, and related disciplines. This role is hands-on and leadership-focused: planning work, coaching teams, enforcing safety and quality, coordinating schedules and resources, and ensuring contractual, cost, and delivery targets are met. The Supervisor will hold a Red Seal (433A) Industrial Millwright or equivalent experience and qualifications and bring strong technical depth in mechanical systems, welding/fabrication, and industrial maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & People Management

• Supervise and coordinate daily activities of welders, millwrights, pipefitters, and apprentices to deliver field work safely and efficiently.
• Schedule and assign personnel, establish priorities, monitor progress, revise schedules, resolve roadblocks, and report results.
• Lead toolboxes/shift huddles and team meetings; communicate targets, risk controls, and quality expectations.
• Coach and develop team members (lead hand pipeline, technical mentoring, cross-training); address performance and attendance; support succession planning.
• Maintain favourable working relationships with internal departments and external customers.

Operations, Planning & Cost Control

• Complete the production plan: labor loading, sequencing, materials coordination, logistics, and equipment readiness.
• Provide accurate daily/weekly/monthly updates on work status, risks, and mitigations.
• Manage key cost elements (overtime, consumables, rental equipment, departmental expenses); support quoting change orders and tracking variances.
• Ensure vendor contract and PO requirements are met (scope, deliverables, documentation, closeout).

Technical & Trades Oversight

• Oversee installation, dismantling, alignment, maintenance, and repair of industrial machinery and process equipment across mines and plants.
• Troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems; support welding/fabrication and steel work.
• Validate and support work packages involving conveyors, pumps, power transmission, mechanical drives, hoists/overhead cranes, and pipeline/pressure systems.
• Read and interpret blueprints, P&IDs, and mechanical drawings; verify measurements and tolerances.
• Support/witness testing, commissioning, and functional checks; ensure "first-time quality."

Safety, Compliance & Training

• Enforce Ontario OHSA, company safety rules, LOTO, confined space, working at heights, rigging/hoisting, and hot work controls.
• Maintain compliance with ISO procedures, Trade Compliance (ITAR), site security and industrial training requirements, and vendor specifications.
• Ensure staff competencies, tickets, and refreshers (e.g., WHMIS, forklift, aerial lift) are current; conduct field audits and corrective actions.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

• Implement and monitor QA/QC checks; control rework and non-conformances; document inspections.
• Lead process improvements (5S, standard work, job plans, setup reduction).
• Drive root-cause problem solving and corrective/preventive actions using effective tools (e.g., 5 Whys, A3).

Stakeholder & Documentation

• Interface with clients, project managers, planners, and procurement to align priorities, technical requirements, and timelines.
• Prepare and maintain work orders, daily reports, timesheets, permits, JHAs/JSAs, and closeout packages.
• Ensure traceability and records integrity for audits and contractual compliance.

Qualifications

Required

• Red Seal Industrial Millwright (433A) preferred
• Completion of a 3 - 4 year apprenticeship plus 5+ years relevant industrial experience may be considered.
• Previous supervisory experience (minimum 2+ years) leading multi-trade crews (welders, millwrights, pipefitters).
• 5+ years industrial experience (mining, heavy manufacturing, steel/fabrication, or industrial maintenance).
• College diploma or university degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical/Engineering Technology, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems; able to read blueprints/P&IDs.
• Demonstrated communication, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Goal-oriented, able to work under demanding conditions, and support other shifts as required.
• Knowledge of laser/fabrication/welding processes.
• English proficiency (written and verbal).
• Ability to work in field, including overtime/weekends when needed; valid driver's license.

Preferred/Assets

• Experience in a unionized manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Exposure to CMMS (work order planning and status), MS Office, and basic scheduling tools.
• Experience with oxy-acetylene cutting, pressure/pipe systems, and overhead cranes.
• Familiarity with CWB welding quality practices and pressure systems standards.

Compensation, Schedule & Benefits

• Pay: CA$40.00-$48.00 per hour commensurate with experience.
• Schedule: 8-hour shift; overtime/weekends as required; field travel as needed
