GHD Fast Incident Response Services Team (GHD FIRST) delivers turnkey, 24/7/365 incident response and management services throughout North America. The GHD FIRST team provides the following core services:

  • Emergency Preparedness, Planning, and Drills
  • Environmental/ Remediation Services
  • Incident Management / Incident Command System (ICS)
  • Air Monitoring/ Industrial Hygiene 
  • Waste Management
  • Toxicology/ Risk Assessment 
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)/ Database
  • Shoreline Clean-up Assessment Technique (SCAT)
  • Digital Technology/ Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Services
  • Construction/ Construction Management Services
  • Crisis Communication and Community Engagement 
  • Litigation Support

Who are we looking for?   

We are seeking an Environmental Project Manager – Emergency Management to join our Calgary, Alberta office. 

The Project Manager is a seasoned and motivated professional, combining effective project management and leadership skills with strong business insight and exceptional interpersonal abilities. In this role, the Project Manager will advance the GHD FIRST business by ensuring successful project delivery for clients, leading and mentoring team members, and expanding emergency response, environmental remediation, and emergency management services. Additionally, this individual will support the growth of the GHD FIRST business across North America by collaborating with leadership and project teams throughout Canada and the US, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities: 

  • Demonstrating GHD's values of safety, respect, teamwork, integrity
  • Contributing to maintaining and enhancing our exceptional culture of responsiveness, collaboration, client advocacy, and quality
  • Managing small- to large-scale projects involving spill response, environmental assessment and remediation, and emergency management/preparedness
  • Communicating with GHD subject matter experts to ensure technical accuracy on project deliverables (i.e. risk assessors, industrial hygienists, remediation specialists, etc.).
  • Responding to emergencies to provide leadership, management, and client relationship support when requested on spill response projects
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to junior staff to ensure projects are executed effectively and client expectations are met. 
  • On rotation to periodically act as the first point of contact for clients for new emergency projects with ability to delegate tasks and request support as required from GHD FIRST team.
  • Preparation of technical correspondence, project proposals, technical reports, work plans, and project specifications including cost estimates and budgets.
  • Interpretation and implementation of provincial and federal spill and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain and enhance relationships with current clients and contractor partners in Alberta and BC
  • Based on the nature of our work, availability to work outside normal working hours and on weekends or holidays is required. These instances are often unplanned and therefore being reachable through MS Teams during non-working hours is expected.  We support and expect our staff to be unreachable from time to time for personal reasons or on scheduled vacation.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, Emergency Management/Spill Response, Chemistry, and/or related field

Experience:

  • Keen interest for long term career growth and development within the GHD FIRST program. 
  • 5-8 years of experience in one or more of the following: 
    • Environmental emergency response and preparedness 
    • Environmental site assessments and remediation
  • Proficient in project management/environmental remediation
  • Ability to effectively communicate with other technical professionals, clients, and regulatory officials
  • Positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, team player and leader
  • Strong mentorship skills to assist with development of junior staff 
  • Strong delegation skills to ensure that emergency projects are staffed and managed appropriately
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time (mostly local, some regional)
  • Willingness to respond to call outs and requests for technical assistance during non-routine working hours
  • Self-starter, flexible team player, willing/able to work on a wide variety of tasks
  • Strong organizational skills to assist with day-to-day operations of the business and organize logistically complex responses/projects
