Reporting to the Senior Project Manager of Development Planning, the Planner, Development Planning will be responsible for but not limited to:
- Evaluating and processing development applications submitted under the Planning Act including Committee of Adjustment, Zoning By-law amendments, as well as processing and review of Site Plan Control applications for approval
- Assisting with Committee of Adjustment and Secretary-Treasurer duties as required
- Providing support to the Manager, Committee of Adjustment Coordinator, Senior and Intermediate Development Planners on planning applications and other planning issues as they arise
- Liaising with other Planning staff, other departments, external agencies, public and applicants' representatives during processing of applications
- Interpreting Official Plan policies and Zoning By-law regulations.
- Assisting with the management of clearance of conditions, and the collection and release of securities in relation to Site Plan approvals
- Answering inquiries from the elected Officials, the public, agencies, developers, landowners and other departments
- Attending community meetings including preparation of minutes from the meeting(s)
- Attending and providing expert witness evidence at Ontario Land Tribunal
- Conducting site visits
- Preparing staff reports for submission to Committee of Adjustment and other Advisory Committees, Committee of the Whole and Council
QUALIFICATIONS
- A post-secondary degree in Planning, Geography or a related field
- A minimum of two (2) years' planning experience in a municipal environment
- Eligibility for membership in CIP/OPPI is required
- Working knowledge of the Planning Act, the Provincial Planning Statement, Official Plans and Zoning Bylaws, and contemporary planning principles and practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and customer service skills, and shall demonstrate the ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Demonstrated expertise related to planning in a municipal environment from a legal, best practice, and customer service perspective
- Demonstrated experience in creating and writing reports for submission to senior-level and executive management
- Valid Class "G" Ontario Driver's License
WAGE/SALARY RANGE: $37.62 to $47.03 per hour (based on a 35 hour work week) plus benefits.
