Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Director of People and Culture, the People and Culture Advisor will work consultatively to provide human resources advice in a wide range of areas. The goal of the People & Culture Team is to play a key role in driving evolution of the culture and performance of JIBC, creating an inclusive work environment that brings out the best of each unique person for the success of JIBC as a whole.

The position contributes to the overall success of the People and Culture team, and ensures that all programs, processes, and team services align with the strategic direction and workplace culture of the organization. It acts as a strategic partner to the divisions and engages in an accessible, fair and consistent way with all staff and partners. As a People and Culture team, we maintain a commitment to employee equity, diversity, and inclusion, including indigenization and ensure these principles are embedded throughout all we do.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Leadership Partnership: Build strong relationships with leaders to support a people-first culture and guide the application of best practices
  • People & Culture Advisory: Provide consultative advice to leaders on employee relations, recruitment and retention, performance management, benefits and pensions, leave management and training and development
  • Policy & Agreement Interpretation: Offer guidance and interpretations related to the collective agreement, HR policies, practices, procedures and applicable legislation
  • Accommodation & Disability Management: Coordinate workplace accommodation and manage disability claims to support safe and positive return-to-work experiences, ensuring compliance and excellent service to all stakeholders
  • Job Evaluation Support: Review job descriptions, analyze role content and ensure consistent and accurate evaluations aligned with the collective agreement
  • Labour Relations: Support grievance handling, arbitration preparation and labour-management meetings as required
  • Recruitment & Selection: Advise and assist hiring managers throughout recruitment and selection processes for both unionized and excluded/Fair Comparison roles, participating in interviews as needed
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • 5+ years of relevant human resources experience with emphasis on complex, unionized environments in public sector.
  • University degree in a related discipline, such as Human Resources, Business Admin / Commerce, Industrial Relations, or acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation or progress towards the designation is preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of human resources programs, and experience contributing to employee engagement and positive workplace culture. Experience with job evaluations is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of labour, employment and human rights laws and legislation, and strong knowledge of contract interpretation.
  • Strong consultative abilities, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate complex situations with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Approachable and collaborative, building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Models respectful and inclusive workplace behaviours, and demonstrates a commitment to meaningful outcomes in diversity, equity, and Indigenization.
  • As a varied role within a dynamic organization, responsibilities may shift based on evolving priorities, requiring flexibility, strong organizational skills, and the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks as needs arise.

What JIBC Offers:

We offer a total compensation package that includes a benefit plan, which includes Extended Health and Dental Benefits after three months, and enrollment in the College Pension Plan upon hire. In addition, we offer 20 vacation days and 10 Personal Days annually (pro-rated in first year), as well as generous other leave entitlements.

Salary Range:

$74,168 to $98,891 annually – Fair Comparison Excluded Salary Grid 8

The Compensation Range shown reflects JIBC's range for the role: between 85% and 100% of the sector range control point. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between 85% - 94% of the control point, based on the knowledge, qualifications and experience for the role, with exceptions in the 95% - 100% range.
