Well Living House at St. Michael's Hospital is focused on advancing generative health services for Indigenous Peoples in three priority areas: Indigenous population health assessment and response; interrupting anti-Indigenous racism in health services; and facilitating the application of Indigenous approaches, knowledges, and practices to wellbeing.
The centre is built from a foundation of more than two decades of collaborative work between Indigenous health researchers, Indigenous service providers and Indigenous community Grandparents. In all that we do, the Well Living House is committed to using and protecting Indigenous knowledges, languages and ways of working.
Well Living House research projects apply an Indigenous community partnership research approach in which Indigenous peoples, communities, governing bodies and/or services are meaningfully engaged in co-leadership of the research throughout each project from conception, implementation, analysis, reporting, and dissemination. Our team deliberately works to apply and uphold Indigenous paradigms, principles, knowledges, strategies and practices to co-produce with Indigenous community partners research that is of clear tangible community benefit.
The Well Living House team is seeking a Research Coordinator II with advanced Indigenous community research skills to conduct and lead the day-to-day coordination of research activities and implementation of research projects involving quantitative and qualitative Indigenous methodologies. Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Research Program Manager, specific duties for the Research Coordinator II will include facilitation of ongoing engagement and communications with Indigenous health service research partners, maintenance of research ethics protocols, ensuring appropriate research practices are followed, meetings coordination, and preparation of manuscripts and/or knowledge translation products, in addition to other implementation and dissemination activities related to Well Living House projects. The Research Coordinator II must be highly organized, able to multi-task, and work in a good way with Indigenous community partners, scientists, staff and grandparents. Experience with Indigenous community-based research and methodologies is required.
Weekly hours: Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)
Length of Position: 1 years with possibility of extension
Start Date: October 2025
Location: Well Living House, Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, ON
Responsibilities
§ Coordinate study activities associated with Well Living House projects, including project management of timelines, resources, deliverables and project tasks
§ Liaise with and support First Nations, Inuit and Metis community and Indigenous health service research partners
§ Coordinate and facilitate meetings, manage meeting minutes, agendas, and follow-up action items
§ Organize study visits and gatherings, including travel for project members
§ Maintain confidentiality of information and records in accordance with standards of ethics, protection of health information and Indigenous community requirements for Indigenous governance and management of Indigenous information (Ownership, Control, Access and Possession)
§ Ensure completion and protection of agreements and contracts, working with legal team and Research Ethics Board
§ Quantitative and qualitative data collection, as required.
§ Support statistical analysis and interpretation
§ Prepare academic manuscripts, presentations, community research reports, and other knowledge translation products
§ May write or consult on protocols, literature reviews
§ Assist with hiring, training, and supervising new staff
§ Other duties as defined by the Principal Investigator
Qualifications
§ Undergraduate Degree and/or Health Professional Qualification in a health or health related field and 3 years of Indigenous health research or relevant experience.
§ Master's degree in a health or health related field considered an asset
§ Experience with Indigenous community-partnered and driven research required
§ Lived experience or knowledge of Indigenous cultural and community practices
§ Strong communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal skills
§ Ability to work independently and as part of a team
§ Strong organizational skills, attention to detail
§ Ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner and flexibility to adapt to changing workload
§ Commitment to Indigenous cultural safety, health equity and advancing Indigenous reconciliation
