Job Posting – RSW Relief

Reporting directly to the Recovery Services Coordinator, the Resident Support Worker – Relief will make a significant impact through supporting successful life transformations of individuals and families experiencing problematic substance use and addiction.

We are seeking dedicated and flexible relief workers to join our team. In this role, you will be called upon to provide support during peak times, staff absences, or other coverage needs. As a relief worker, your role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of our facility during periods when regular staff are unavailable.

Lived experience of recovery required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Observes and documents residents' biopsychosocial status.
  • Provides supportive counselling, monitors, and documents changes.
  • Performs duties such as admission and discharge of residents by reporting and providing incident reports, providing orientation for new residents.
  • Documentation of individual behaviors and activities through writing of daily records and logs, making referrals to other services.
  • Assembles and distributes information and resource materials for residents.
  • Supports medical emergencies by managing situations in accordance with established policies and procedures. Reports unsafe conditions and behavioral, physical and/or cognitive changes to the supervisor or designate.
  • Provides supportive programming and individual supportive counselling to residents.
  • Acts as a role model for healthy lifestyle choices and encourages residents to actively participate in recovery-oriented activities including social, recreational, art and leisure activities, as well as peer support and mutual aid meetings based individualized residents' needs identified.
  • Coordinates daily living activities and assists the counselling team in the provision of individualized treatment plans.
  • Works collaboratively with staff and community partners in the provision of integrated care.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Relevant training/diploma/certification or 1-year related experience
  • Ability to manage conflict in a calm, assertive and respectful manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective in building trust and rapport
  • Experience in observing and recognizing behavioral and/or health status changes in residents.
  • Effective in mentoring others and ability to role model healthy lifestyle choices and set and maintain boundaries.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
