Position Summary

The General Maintenance position will perform a variety of duties in the following operational divisions of the Parks and Recreation Department: Parks Maintenance and Facilities, Sports Fields and Turf, Horticulture, Forestry, Cemetery Services, and Golf. Duties will include but are not limited to: general maintenance duties such as facility and parks maintenance, cleaning, painting, litter collection, playground maintenance, and construction; sports field and turf maintenance including grass cutting, trimming, fertilization, and restoration; as well as cemetery, trails, horticulture and tree maintenance tasks. The General Maintenance position is physically demanding and involves heavy lifting and bending. This position involves working outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Applicants must complete all required training and be able to work days, afternoons, nights and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Ability to safely operate a variety of tools and equipment related to general maintenance
  • Ability to work in a team environment, accept and follow verbal and written instructions and complete duties as assigned to an acceptable standard with minimal supervision
  • Follow all City of Brantford Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Possess the skills and abilities to perform the duties listed above
  • A valid "G" Ontario Driver's License in good standing during the course of employment
  • CSA approved steel-toed boots is required for this position
  • A valid First Aid Certificate with a level "C" CPR is mandatory for this seasonal position and must be submitted with your application
  • Applicants must submit a current Police Information Check (dated within the past 3 months) from their local police service for approval by the Corporation prior to commencing employment
