Position Overview

Auguston Town Development Inc. (ATDI) is currently recruiting for a permanent full-time Junior Planner. This entry-level position works under the direction of the General Manager and the Development & Operations Manager to support community planning, land development coordination, and project analysis. The Junior Planner will assist in providing planning information to the public and internal teams, and will contribute to the research, analysis, and reporting that supports ATDI's long-term community development strategy. The role involves collaboration with municipal partners, consultants, senior staff, and other stakeholders, and requires a strong commitment to professional communication, organization, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Support: Assist the General Manager and Development & Operations Manager with project plans, schedules, budgets, and reporting.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Gather, analyze, and organize planning and project data to inform decisions and prepare reports.
  • Coordination: Liaise with internal departments, consultants, contractors, municipal staff, and the public to gather information and ensure smooth project workflow.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate project files, permits, correspondence, and documentation records.
  • Public Interaction: Respond to public inquiries and provide basic information on planning policies and development processes.
  • Meeting Participation: Prepare agendas, attend project meetings, record minutes, and track follow-up actions.
  • Risk Identification: Help identify potential project risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

Education & Experience

  • Post secondary education in Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Planning, Land Use Planning, Architecture, Civil Technology, or a related field. (A bachelor's degree is preferred but not required; applicants with relevant diplomas or equivalent planning-related experience will also be considered).
  • 0-3 years of experience in planning, land development, municipal approvals, engineering coordination, project administration, or related work. (Co-op, internship, or volunteer experience in a planning or development environment is considered an asset).
  • Basic understanding or familiarity with BC planning frameworks, including Official Community Plan (OCP), zoning bylaws, development permits, subdivision processes, and municipal approval procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with comfort interacting with consultants, municipal staff, and the public.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, document management, and basic data analysis. (Experience with GIS mapping tools, or visualization software is an asset but not required).
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence preferred (occasional site visits may be required).

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $65,500 - $85,500 (commensurate with experience)
