Company Overview

Welcome to CNOOC International. We are a global energy company and subsidiary of CNOOC Limited with a vision of delivering safe, sustainable energy for all.

CNOOC International, the international division of CNOOC Limited, is a global energy company with operations in Asia, Africa, the Americas, the Middle East and Europe. Our successful growth as an upstream oil and gas producer has been achieved by consistently finding and developing world-class assets.

Our business is focused on safely exploring and producing from conventional offshore, unconventional and oil sands assets. As part of the CNOOC Group of companies, which span the entire energy supply chain, our size and capability create a competitive advantage that ensures we deliver long-term value.

In Canada, CNOOC International has oil sands assets in Long Lake, located in northern Alberta just south of Fort McMurray, which is a SAGD and partial Upgrader operation with production capacity of 85,000 barrels of bitumen a day. We also have interest in several other oil sands projects, including Hangingstone, operated by Greenfire Resources Operating Corporation and Syncrude's oil sands mining upgrading facility. In addition to our oil sands business, we have shale gas land in Northeast British Columbia, a power station in Balzac, Alberta, and interest in a wind farm in southern Alberta. Calgary is our regional corporate office for all North America.

This is a 12-month contractor role based in Calgary, Alberta, working Monday to Friday. The successful candidates will be onboarded through a third-party contracting agency.

Your Background
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Alberta (or eligibility).
  • 10+ years of piping engineering experience in oil sands, upstream, or heavy oil projects (brownfield project experience preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of piping design codes and standards (ASME B31.3, B31.1, CSA Z662, API, etc.).
  • Proven ability to review and approve contractor deliverables, including 3D models, isometrics, and stress analysis reports.
  • Experience with field verification, tie-in work, and constructability reviews.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ability to balance project oversight responsibilities with hands-on support for EWPs and daily project needs.
Your Role with Our Team
  • Review and approve piping/equipment drawings, calculations, and design documents from EPCs/third-party contractors to ensure compliance with company engineering standards, codes (ASME, CSA, API, etc.), and project specifications.
  • Provide timely technical feedback to contractors to avoid delays in project progress.
  • Act as a technical authority within the project team for all piping-related matters.
  • Monitor contractor deliverables and schedules to ensure project milestones are achieved.
  • Collaborate with project managers, discipline engineers, and construction teams to resolve piping issues.
  • Perform site visits and field inspections to confirm as-built conditions, identify tie-in points, and verify constructability.
  • Provide practical solutions to field engineering queries and support resolution of clashes or deviations.
  • Support the development, review, and issuance of piping EWPs to contractors.
  • Provide day-to-day technical support to Operations and Maintenance team when required.
  • Ensure design and project implementation conform with design intent, specifications and standard practices.
