Design Quality Engineer

As a Design Quality Engineer (DQE), you will be the critical link between product design and quality assurance - ensuring that every design is not only robust and functional, but also manufacturable, measurable, and compliant with quality standards from the earliest stages of development. The DQE position is brand new to North Arc, so this person will be instrumental in establishing, shaping, and continuously overseeing the function.
This role is perfect for someone who thrives at the intersection of design, quality, and manufacturing—someone who can think like an engineer, solve problems with precision, and execute with technical excellence. You will act as the technical lead within QA, responsible for ensuring our products go beyond theoretical functionality - delivering solutions that are measurable, repeatable, and fully ready for production.
In this role, you'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive successful project execution from concept through to production. Success will require a strong foundation in mechanical engineering, a sharp eye for detail, creative problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You will report directly to the Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Using SolidWorks CAD you will design and implement custom metallurgy fixtures, gauges, and in line inspection solutions.
- Lead tolerance stack-up analyses to ensure dimensional compatibility and manufacturability
- Lead the generation of FMEA, Control Plans, PPAP/FAI documents
- You will perform Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and Gauge R&R
- Support and guide Advanced Quality Planning (AQP) activities from concept through production launch, ensure QA procedures and documentation align with ISO 9001 standards
Ideal Candidate Skills Set:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, a P.Eng designation preferred.
- Over 8 years of experience in mechanical design with a strong quality assurance focus
- Experience with SolidWorks (including PDM) in a machine design capacity, MS Office tools
- Six Sigma Black Belt / CQE certification would be considered an asset
- Able to read and understand GD&T and perform tolerance analysis
- Proven experience with CMM equipment, optical measurement tools, and CMM fixture design
- Extensive knowledge of APQP within an ISO 9001 environment
- Ability to work independently while operating as part of a team.
- Fluent in English with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must hold a Canadian or US citizenship.
