Admissions Officer, Transfer Credit
Admissions and Transfer Credit facilitates the admission of Canadian and international students to direct entry programs (and others) by interpreting and setting admission and transfer credit policy and procedures, by evaluating the credentials of applications and rendering admissions decisions and by evaluating and assessing transfer credit. The unit also works with non-direct entry programs to provide admission and international credentialing advice.
Primary Purpose: To evaluate international and domestic education qualifications, credentials, and transcripts for undergraduate program admissibility, verify the authenticity of international documents, develop and maintain a resource library/database of international education systems, and deliver training sessions on the evaluation and conversion of international and domestic education qualifications as well as to perform transfer credit evaluations for international applicants at the undergraduate level.
Nature of Work: Reporting to the Director of Admissions and Transfer Credit, as well as taking direction from the Coordinator of Admissions and Transfer Credit, you will assess the credentials of international and domestic undergraduate student applicants; contribute to developing, updating and maintaining appropriate tools for units to effectively and consistently evaluate international and domestic credentials; produce standard operating procedures for international and domestic credential assessment; train staff on the process and use of the available tools; monitor credential-evaluation decisions for consistency and accuracy; and contribute to excellent prospective student service. You will help in the development of an undergraduate transfer credit database as well as evaluate undergraduate transcripts for transfer credit while working closely with and communicating to stakeholders (students, departments and colleges).
Typical Duties or Accountabilities: Work in collaboration with admissions officers and admission assistants as part of a credential evaluation team, to evaluate secondary and post-secondary credentials for programs administered through the Admissions and Transfer Credit Office and determine to perform transfer credit evaluations and/or admission decisions for undergraduate applicants according to best practices.
- Evaluate credentials according to best practices and in accordance with admission policies and calculate admission and awards averages
- Perform transfer credit evaluations for international undergraduate applicants and outgoing exchange students according to best practices, that includes applying credential assessment methodology; comparing international credentials, such as transcripts and degrees, to Canadian standards to determine admissibility; interpreting policies and precedent to inform decisions; and Conducting research on international education systems and recommending admission policy for applicants from countries around the world, by consulting databases/precedent files/other reference documentation and websites
- Empower academic units to learn and support credential evaluation and act as a resource for academic units regarding the interpretation and assessment of international and domestic credentials
- Continued development and maintenance of a complete set of procedures for units to verify the accreditation of the institutions, authenticate documents, and conduct grade conversions for international and domestic student applicants
- Ensure updated and complete information is available online for potential students to allow them to prescreen their application, and for administrative staff to guide and support their work
- Other duties as assigned.
Education: Completion of post-secondary education strongly preferred, but a combination of education and direct experience will be considered.
Experience: Candidate should demonstrate expertise in the admissions process. in credential evaluation, and knowledge of best practices in credential evaluation. 2+ years' experience in evaluating international and domestic credentials for admission and or transfer credit in a post-secondary institution would be considered an asset. Experience in BANNER and RECRUIT are also considered an asset.
