Compensation: $20-$23/hour, depending on experience

Position Overview

The TCG Instructor is responsible for teaching players of all experience levels how to learn, enjoy, and grow within a variety of trading card games, including Pokémon, Lorcana, Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic: The Gathering, Riftbound, and others. This role focuses on creating an engaging, supportive learning environment where participants can develop game knowledge, strategy, and confidence while having fun.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach core rules, gameplay mechanics, and beginner strategies for multiple TCGs.
  • Guide players through hands-on practice matches and structured play sessions.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for youth and new players.
  • Demonstrate sportsmanship, fair play, and positive gaming habits.
  • Assist participants in understanding deck building, card interactions, and game flow.
  • Adapt teaching methods to suit different ages and experience levels.
  • Ensure all program materials, game components, and play spaces are organized and ready for use.
  • Encourage teamwork, critical thinking, and creativity through gameplay.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR C
  • Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (18+)
  • Strong familiarity with at least one major TCG; experience with multiple systems preferred.
  • Excellent communication, patience, and the ability to simplify complex concepts.
  • Prior experience working with youth or leading activities is an asset.
  • Enthusiasm for gaming and creating a fun, supportive atmosphere.
  • Assets or Willing to Obtain:
  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development Certification
  • Safe Sport Certification
