Role Overview

The Financial Controller manages all aspects of financial control and reporting—from vendor payments and payroll to reconciliations and monthly reporting to ownership. You will own RBA's accounting rhythms across Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Payroll, and Financial Reporting, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and visibility into company performance.

This is a hands-on role perfect for someone who thrives on process, accountability, and building clean financial systems that support smart business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Accounts Payable (AP)

  • Manage and enforce Purchase Order and vendor billing processes.
  • Oversee vendor communication and maintain vendor records.
  • Ensure all subcontractor costs are coded adequately to projects.
  • Process daily DEXT and QBO feeds.
  • Issue digital payments through approval workflows in Plooto.
  • Maintain accuracy in project budgets and JobTread integration.

2. Accounts Receivable (AR)

  • Manage and standardize invoicing processes and payment schedules.
  • Support PMs in issuing progress draws and change orders.
  • Process EFT payments via Plooto and track receivables.
  • Enforce collection processes and manage bad debt/lien escalation.
  • Maintain positive balances on all project accounts.

3. Financial Reporting

  • Reconcile all accounts and credit cards monthly by the 10th.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial packages.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and manage accruals/prepaids.
  • Produce ad hoc financial analysis for ownership.
  • Collaborate with the external CPA for year-end and compliance filings.

4. Payroll & HR Systems

  • Manage company payroll, benefits, and compensation structures.
  • Ensure accurate employee records and approved hours weekly.
  • Support wage reviews and new hire financial analysis.
  • Implement and maintain performance pay programs.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in construction accounting or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of job costing, accruals, and project accounting.
  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online (QBO) and JobTread.
  • Strong attention to detail, follow-through, and systems thinking.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and enforce process consistency.
  • CPA designation (or in progress) is an asset.

Measures of Success

  • Accurate, reconciled monthly income statements and balance sheets by the 10th of each month.
  • All subcontractor costs and billings are correctly tied to projects.
  • No payroll processing error per quarter.
  • Consistent, clear communication with vendors, staff, and ownership.
