Retail Operations Manager – The Trail Runner Store
We are looking for a passionate Retail Operations Manager to join The Trail Runner Store and lead both our in-store and online operations. Founded in 2018 in Toronto by trail runners and entrepreneurs, we have built more than a retail business — we are a community hub committed to high-quality, durable gear, inspiring outdoor exploration, ethical sourcing, and giving back to the trail running community and our planet.
About the Role
In this role, you will take ownership of the day-to-day operations of our retail and e-commerce business — from inventory and fulfilment to customer experience — while aligning with our commitment to delivering value, reducing waste, fostering outdoor adventure, and supporting our local and global community. The selected candidate will also have future opportunities to earn equity in the business based on long-term performance and commitment.
What You Will Do
- Oversee day-to-day retail operations, including customer service, order fulfillment, and inventory management.
- Manage and optimize our Shopify e-commerce store to improve customer experience and conversion.
- Coordinate product listings, pricing, merchandising online.
- Build and maintain vendor and supplier relationships, including purchase orders and stock replenishment.
- Interpret sales data, inventory levels, and customer insights to drive better decision-making.
- Work directly with ownership on process improvements, growth opportunities, and future expansion plans.
What We Are Looking For
- 3+ years of experience in retail operations, preferably in running, outdoor, or specialty footwear.
- Strong understanding of inventory, merchandising, and customer experience best practices.
- Experience with Shopify or other e-commerce management tools is an asset.
- Strong typing proficiency, with the ability to update product listings, respond to customers, and manage back-end systems quickly and accurately.
- Experience with basic HTML (e.g., editing product descriptions, formatting content on Shopify) is considered a strong asset.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills; comfortable wearing many hats.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for improving systems and building a business.
- A genuine appreciation for fitness and outdoor activity is a strong asset.
