The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a
Senior Maintenance Assistant,
to join our Coleman Mine Maintenance Team in Sudbury, ON.

This is a permanent position covered under the Collective Agreement between Vale and the Local United Steelworkers.

The Senior Maintenance Assistant will provide technical expertise for elements such as: electrical/electronic control systems, control software and telecommunications. The successful applicant will facilitate automation implementation for new and existing equipment and its integration into a process operation.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • This position requires the incumbent to work in an underground environment.
  • Must be able to mentor, coach and train junior colleagues and possess strong communication skills.
  • Maintain and update electrical and instrumentation prints using approved software.
  • The incumbent will be required to document data and procedures, and complete formal written reports.
  • Assist in the development of communication and automation systems, safety and fail-safe analysis, critical spare parts lists, etc.
  • Proven ability to analyze problems and propose and implement solutions.
  • Assist with maintenance and design of Instrumentation, Electrical and Hydraulic Control Systems
  • Assist with the design, maintenance and programming of the following systems: LTE and Leaky Feed Communications, Fiber Optic Communications, Video Lans, Wi Fi, Modbus, Modbus Plus, Proworx 32 & Control Expert Programming, Ethernet Communications, HART protocol, Smart Overload Motor Controller, Factory Talk HMI/SCADA Software, Ventilation on Demand.

About You
Education:

  • Graduate technologist in electrical/electronic discipline (certification in automation, electronics, communications, electrical, instrumentation and/or relevant field is desirable). An Interprovincial Red Seal in Electrical or Instrumentation would be considered an asset to this role.

Experience:

  • More than three years of related underground experience in similar design and maintenance fields preferred. Previous experience in automation, communications, military, network management, ethernet communications, automotive, will be considered.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of modern analytical techniques, instrumentation, Combustion BMS and network communications is required. Applicants must be fully conversant with applicable codes and government regulations.
  • General knowledge of automation equipment, Fiber System Design and Maintenance is required. Willingness to learn and adapt to new and changing technologies is a requirement.
  • General knowledge with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Accuracy and Thoroughness: Knows and meets customer requirements.

  • Innovative Thinking: Provides options for resolutions.
  • Listening, Understanding and Responding: Listens responsively.
