Senior Software Engineering Team Lead

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineering Team Lead to provide both technical excellence and organizational leadership to our engineering team. This role is ideal for a senior engineer who thrives on building and scaling teams, leading architecture decisions, and driving execution — while staying hands-on with coding, design, and performance optimization.

You will help shape the future of VoPay's core platform, mentor engineers across multiple disciplines, and contribute to key architectural and strategic technology initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Team Management

• Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering a high-performance, accountable, and collaborative culture.
• Provide technical direction and architectural guidance across multiple projects and domains.
• Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and support career development for team members.
• Partner with Product, QA, and DevOps teams to ensure alignment on priorities, deliverables, and timelines.
• Build hiring strategies in collaboration with leadership to attract and retain top technical talent.

Hands-On Development & Problem Solving

• Contribute to development efforts (~60–70% hands-on coding) using best practices for scalability, maintainability, and performance.
• Review, refactor, and optimize critical code paths and system components.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex production and performance issues.
• Champion test-driven development and continuous integration processes.

Project Ownership & Delivery

• Oversee project planning, sprint execution, and delivery timelines in coordination with cross-functional teams.
• Participate in architectural reviews and design sessions to ensure long-term system scalability.
• Own deployment and release management processes, ensuring stability, quality, and traceability.
• Monitor post-release performance, ensuring issues are identified and resolved proactively.

Operational & Strategic Impact

• Drive technical innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Evaluate and introduce new tools, frameworks, and methodologies that improve team efficiency and platform reliability.
• Contribute to defining the long-term technical roadmap aligned with VoPay's strategic objectives.
• Support the CTO and VP of Engineering in scaling engineering operations and processes as the company grows.

Technical Expertise

• Strong back-end programming skills (PHP, Python preferred; , Java, or Go also valuable).
• Expertise in database design, management, and optimization (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or equivalent).
• Proven experience with RESTful API design, development, and integration.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and modern DevOps practices.
• Proficiency in unit testing, debugging, and performance optimization.
• Solid understanding of security best practices (authentication, authorization, data protection).
• Experience with microservices architecture, system design, and distributed systems.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 3+ years in a leadership or team lead role.
• Demonstrated experience building and scaling engineering teams.
• Strong technical foundation and ability to guide complex architectural discussions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills — able to bridge technical and business conversations.
• A track record of mentoring engineers, managing performance, and fostering team growth.
• Collaborative mindset and passion for building impactful, scalable fintech solutions.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $110,000.00-$140,000.00 per year
