Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and professionally upon arrival, creating a positive first impression.
- Schedule appointments efficiently using Abeldent software ensuring optimal patient flow.
- Verify insurance coverage and benefits through systems like Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth, accurately processing claims and payments.
- Collect payments, co-pays, and outstanding balances while maintaining meticulous financial records.
- Manage incoming calls using multi-line phone systems with excellent phone etiquette, directing inquiries appropriately.
- Review and update patient medical records within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as eClinicalWorks or Meditech, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist with intake procedures by gathering medical history, updating documentation review processes, and explaining treatment plans clearly to patients.
- Maintain organized filing of dental records, lab results, and correspondence to support efficient office operations.
- Handle administrative duties such as data entry with proficient typing skills (including 10 key typing), managing office supplies, and supporting overall clinic management activities.
- Uphold strict confidentiality standards under HIPAA guidelines while managing sensitive health information.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Medical Receptionist or Dental Receptionist within a clinical or dental setting; clinic or dental office experience is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology and medical terminology to effectively communicate with patients and staff.
- Familiarity with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Dentrix Ascend, or similar platforms like Epic or Meditech.
- Experience with dental billing procedures including insurance verification, claims processing, and understanding of CPT coding and ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9).
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security at all times.
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), health information management software like Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks.
- Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to handle multi-line phone systems gracefully while maintaining professionalism under pressure.
- Bilingual abilities are considered an asset to better serve diverse patient populations.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation review and filing procedures.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.
