Director of Accounting – Real Estate Investments

Location: North York (5 days per week in office)

Compensation: $150,000 – $170,000 base plus bonus

Excellent opportunity for a senior accounting professional to join an entrepreneurial real estate investment and management company based in North York. This is a hands-on, leadership role overseeing financial reporting, cash management, and the accounting team supporting a diverse real estate portfolio including several million square feet of commercial assets across Ontario. Priority will be given to individuals who have strong commercial property accounting experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements and reporting packages
  • Supervise general ledger, working papers, journal entries, and bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Lead financial system enhancements and process improvements to drive efficiency
  • Manage compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal reporting requirements including HST and corporate taxes
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial analysis to support key management decisions
  • Lead CAM and tax reconciliations, capital calls, and investor distributions
  • Coordinate year-end audit and liaise with external auditors
  • Mentor and develop a high-performing accounting team

Requirements:

  • CPA designation (CA, CMA, or CGA) strongly preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in commercial real estate
  • Strong technical accounting background with a focus on reporting accuracy and timeliness
  • Experience with Yardi or similar real estate accounting software
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
