Job Summary
SES is looking for a SPED Teacher to work with us on our Grade 6-12 programs and build relationships with students, families, and staff in our community. Required to teach in Stz'uminus Community School as assigned by the SCS Principal.
Responsibilities
Case Management
· Facilitate the development and review of competency-based IEPs with families, teachers, EAs, specialists, elders, and administration.
· Schedule and chair IEP meetings; take and share meeting minutes
· Liaise with outside agencies, including but not limited to VICAN, pediatricians, family doctors, MCFD-CYSN, OTs, SLPs, PTs, DHH/Visually impaired supports
· Maintain all Spec. Ed records in the students' file
· Support CLBC paperwork
· Ensure all necessary paperwork is up to date for transitions
· Bring the team together for all "report outs" (OT, PT, SLP, Psych Eds), which include family, administration, teachers, Elders, the Inclusion Team, and EAs.
School-Based Team:
· Respond to referrals from classroom teachers
· Support teachers at meetings with families
· Consult with a Psychologist
· Facilitate Psychoeducational assessments
· Develop/acquire resources: visuals, equipment, sensory tools, technology
· Will be required to teach high school courses as required by SCS Principal.
Students:
· Support classroom teachers with inclusive, differentiated instruction in their classrooms
· Target skills with individuals/groups, in or out of class
· Level B assessments
· Respond to emerging safety / behaviour concerns
· Monitor progress
· Support student behaviour
· Support classroom management to create necessary interventions to support behaviours
SES Community Responsibilities:
· Build and maintain a respected reputation in the community
· Collaborate with staff and community members to understand and realize SES vision, mission and provocative propositions
· Attend staff meetings, professional development, community events, etc., as required
· Attend SES Staff Hul'q'umi'num and culture classes
· Adhere to SES policies and procedures
· Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor or designee
Requirements
· Certification with the BC Teacher Regulation Branch
· SLP experience required
· Bachelor's degree in Education
· A master's degree in special education is considered an asset.
· Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience preferred
· Knowledge of special education principles, theories, testing, methods, etc., as well as proven methods of maximizing the education experience of students with diverse needs.
· Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning
· Able to care for self and others in challenging conditions
· Dedication to incorporating our Indigenous, Coast Salish culture, Hul'q'umi'num language and Stz'uminus ways of knowing in both teaching and personal learning
· A collaborative team player who respects and values what each member of the program contributes to the education of our learners
· Recognize and respond to the signs, symptoms and risks of trauma
· Utilize trauma-aware practices and communication to facilitate healing-centred relationships
· Confirmation and maintenance of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check for working with Vulnerable Persons
· Passionate about supporting Indigenous students in expanding their learning.

Pay: $64,496.00-$96,957.00 per year
