Who we need
Reporting to the VP, Operations, we are hiring a Manager, Security Engineering. As our new Manager, Security Engineering you will lead a team focused on delivering secure, scalable solutions built on Microsoft Sentinel and Defender XDR. You will drive the strategy, standards, and execution that define how CYBERWELL embeds security-by-design across clients and internal platforms, applying NIST CSF 2.0 to measure maturity and reduce risk.
You will balance leadership and execution—empowering engineers, optimizing processes, and partnering across GRC, operations, and sales to ensure security drives measurable business outcomes as well as work with key technology partners to enhance security offerings and deliver greater client value.
This is a remote role based in Canada.
Who you are
You are an agile, decisive, and forward-thinking security leader ready to step out of a large, structured environment and into a space where you can learn faster, execute boldly, and shape outcomes directly. You bring deep technical expertise in Microsoft Sentinel, Defender XDR, and NIST CSF 2.0, paired with the business acumen to translate security requirements into actionable technical stories. As a leader, you empower your team to think independently, grow confidently, and deliver measurable impact. You see opportunity in transformation and are energized by the challenge of helping a company scale rapidly, innovate continuously, and double its impact over the next three years.
What's in it for you
Impact that matters. You will play a critical role in protecting the infrastructure that keeps communities and economies running—supporting sectors such as healthcare, education, transportation, and energy. Your work will directly strengthen the systems that safeguard people's daily lives across Canada, North America, and beyond.
Growth and opportunity. You will join CYBERWELL at a pivotal moment, an agile, rapidly scaling company of 60 employees on track to become the leading cybersecurity partner in North America. With ambitions to double our impact over the next three years and expand into the U.S. and Commonwealth markets, this is a rare opportunity to shape a program, a team, and a culture from the ground up.
Autonomy and influence. You will have the freedom to move quickly, make decisions, and see your ideas come to life without layers of bureaucracy. You will help build a security engineering function that reflects your vision and leadership—one that grows alongside you. This is a chance to lead transformation, influence strategy, and contribute meaningfully to CYBERWELL's next phase of growth.
As our new Manager, Security Engineering you will:
- Lead and build. You will define the strategy and structure of CYBERWELL's Security Engineering function, developing a high-performing team. You will recruit, mentor, and grow talent, establishing clear expectations, feedback loops, and opportunities for professional development. You will foster a culture of inclusion, trust, and accountability—balancing empowerment with execution.
- Drive strategy and innovation. You will evolve CYBERWELL's Azure security reference architecture, establishing standards, patterns, and reusable assets such as IaC, policy-as-code, and guardrails. You will apply NIST CSF 2.0 to measure and improve maturity across the Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, and Recover functions, translating insights into actionable roadmaps that strengthen both client outcomes and internal capabilities.
- Deliver excellence. You will oversee the architecture, operation, and optimization of Microsoft Sentinel and Defender XDR environments, ensuring cost efficiency, operational readiness, and detection accuracy. You will lead advanced detection engineering, incident response, and post-incident reviews while embedding security into CI/CD pipelines and ITSM workflows. You will partner with stakeholders to define SLAs, align priorities, and deliver secure platform services that enable business velocity and resilience.
- Expand business value. You will work closely with GRC, sales, and operations teams to identify opportunities for service growth, build repeat business, and strengthen client partnerships. You will contribute to business development by supporting security sales engineering activities, collaborating on proposals, and co-developing new offerings with technology partners. You will ensure utilization, forecasting, and delivery metrics are accurate, actionable, and aligned with company goals.
- Measure and report. You will establish and track enterprise value metrics tied to risk reduction, cost management, and customer outcomes. You will report KPIs and OKRs to executives and clients, lead governance forums, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Your leadership will be both strategic and operational, balancing the need to deliver today with the vision to scale tomorrow.
You bring:
- The leadership mindset. You are an agile and decisive leader who has built teams that think independently and deliver with accountability. You are comfortable rolling up your sleeves to support delivery when needed, but your true impact comes from developing others and setting them up for success. You lead with integrity, transparency, and curiosity, inspiring confidence and trust across teams and clients alike.
- The technical expertise. You bring advanced, hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Sentinel and Defender XDR - architecting, tuning, and optimizing complex environments for performance, cost efficiency, and accuracy. You have deep experience with SIEM/SOAR automation, KQL analytics, threat hunting, and endpoint detection. You understand modern Azure security architecture, infrastructure as code (Terraform/Bicep), DevSecOps pipelines, and the practical application of NIST CSF 2.0 to assess, benchmark, and advance security maturity.
- The business acumen. You think beyond tools and technology, translating risk and technical complexity into clear, actionable insights that drive business value. You can engage confidently with executives, clients, and partners, supporting sales and delivery conversations with credibility and clarity. You understand how to measure what matters, using KPIs and OKRs to demonstrate impact on cost, risk reduction, and customer outcomes.
- The agility. You thrive in a scale-up environment and are comfortable making decisions with speed and clarity, adapting to changing priorities, and operating with both urgency and discipline. You value autonomy and accountability, and you are energized by the challenge of helping a growing company move fast, think big, and deliver exceptional results.
What you can expect from our interview process:
- A virtual interview with a Talent Advisor discussing your interest in the role and your experience. The conversation will be recorded using BrightHire, an AI-powered video interview tool. More details will be shared when you are invited to interview.
- A virtual technical interview with the VP Operations. This will also be an opportunity to learn more about the role and projected company growth.
- A final virtual interview with the CTO and an opportunity to learn more about the team and culture.
