Custom Painter and Prep Assistant

What's the Opportunity?

VeloColour is hiring a Custom Paint Assistant. There is never a quiet moment at VeloColour, each day is something different. We all work as a team to get the job done so whether it's cleaning the spray booth, prep sanding frames or spraying final clear coats this job could involve it all depending on your experience. To succeed in this role, the successful candidate will have good time management skills, be efficient at completing repetitive tasks and have high attention to detail. This is a permanent year round position since we are always stacked high with paint projects.

Experience:

The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of relevant paint or educational experience. Starting wage will reflect previous experience and training requirements. An interest in bicycles is an asset but not mandatory. We are an equal opportunity employer

Paint Prep involves:

-Striping of original finishes by means of hand sanding or chemical stripping.

- Proper preparation of surfaces for refinishing

- Media blasting of frames and parts

-Controlled application of base primer coats and paint

-Detailed sanding and filling of primed surfaces

-More sanding, there is always a lot of sanding to do.

-General shop maintenance; fixing tools, cleaning/vacuuming, removing debris from spray booth and stripping tanks, garbage removal, etc

-Logging hours worked on each specific job

Paint Application:

-Hand-held spray guns – application of all materials Waterbased, Polyurathanes, Specialty finishes such as Pearls, Candies, Flakes etc. , Epoxy Primers etc.

-Stencil Masking (application and removal)

-Exact colour matching and mixing (colour theory)

Candidate must have the following skills:

-The ability to follow specific directions

-Very high attention to detail

-Patience regarding difficult, repetitive and/or laborious tasks

-Clean and tidy work habits

-Very steady hands and good eyesight

-Able to pick-up new skills and ideas

-The ability to take constructive criticism

-Work in a timely and efficient fashion

-A background in working with your hands

-Standing for extended period of time

The things you won't be doing:

-Designing paint schemes

-Using a paint brush, except maybe for cleanin

-Geeking out over the amazing custom built bike the just came in (you can do this on your lunch time though).

Other Details:

The position is permanent, full time, year round, 8hrs a day. Starting wage is $22 if you have very little experience. Ideally the new team member will come to VeloColour with paint experience and we will compensate fair and accordingly.

We are looking for someone who is excited to join our team long term and grow with the business. A two year minimum commitment is preferred since the training period is easily 6-12 months.
