Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Recreation Worker to join our team in providing engaging and meaningful recreational activities for residents in assisted living and nursing home settings. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in senior care, particularly with experience in Alzheimer's care, dementia care, and recreational therapy. This role is essential in enhancing the quality of life for our residents by promoting social interaction, physical activity, and cognitive engagement.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and implement recreational programs tailored to the needs and interests of residents.
- Facilitate group activities such as arts and crafts, games, exercise classes, outings, and social events.
- Provide one-on-one support to residents who may require additional assistance or encouragement to participate.
- Collaborate with healthcare staff to ensure activities align with residents' care plans and individual capabilities.
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as needed while promoting independence.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for all recreational activities.
- Document participation and progress of residents in recreational programs.
- Create "About Me" profiles
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff regarding activity schedules and resident needs.
- Assist in recruiting, training, and evaluating volunteers and students
Experience
- Previous experience in assisted living or nursing home settings is preferred in the area of social/recreational programming.
- A minimum of the Activity: Program Service Development Certificate (RRC) or its equivalent
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or special needs is a plus.
- Familiarity with aging issues counseling and long-term care practices is beneficial.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and team members.
- Ability to manage schedules effectively while being adaptable to changing resident needs.
