Senior Buyer-Food Manufacturing

We are seeking a motivated and detail-orientated Buyer. They will purchase appropriate items and maintain control of working stock/Par values meeting inventory days on hand targets. This Individual will work with procurement and will purchase products ONLY from the pre-approved suppliers list at the pre negotiated rates with consideration given to the urgency of needs. They are responsible for maintaining adequate supplies of inventory to meet customer service level expectations while minimizing inventory loss due to spoilage/obsolescence and days on hand inventory as per company expectations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Daily Maintenance of Inventory ERP system to ensure it is highly accurate.
  • Daily review of product movement forecasts based on cyclical needs and availability, market trends, and probability of anticipated sales.
  • Provide vendors with forecast of product requirements.
  • Maintain ordering of various product lines from numerous vendors daily.
  • Verify quantity and quality of stock received from manufacturer.
  • Request refunds from vendors to compensate for losses incurred with damaged product and work with finance to reconcile accounts.
  • Research opportunities to return products to manufacturers that do not sell.
  • Expedite delivery of product by communicating with suppliers, vendors and transportation companies. Verify inventory status and delivery schedules.
  • Successfully resolve problems with suppliers regarding deliveries and quality of product, invoicing, rejections, etc.
  • Verify pricing via matching purchase orders to customers. Verify vendor invoice reconciliations.
  • Work with Q/A to ensure the company provides a quality product to our customers by keeping existing inventory within proper expiration codes.
  • Take steps to reduce dead inventory according to department policy, requesting vendor rebates, return product to vendor.
  • Review quality concerns on perishable overstock inventory and recommend plan for disposition of product.
  • Maintain daily inventory status and usage and review with management when needed.
  • Negotiate and writing simple deals, recommending terms and conditions for contracts that agreed upon by senior management.
  • The Buyer will be assigned duties, based on organizational needs and priorities.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a food purchasing role, with familiarity in managing logistics, forecasting product needs, and negotiating.
  • Analytical Skills: Individual will be working with multiple vendors to determine the best deals for our company and will have to evaluate the many pros and cons of each, based on price, quality, speed of delivery and other factors.
  • Thorough understanding of purchasing concepts.
  • Ability to work as a team. Must be able to diplomatically, tactfully and professionally be persistent when representing the company to effectively deal with suppliers.
  • Strongly Proficient with Excel, Word, and Outlook as required.
  • Resides within a 30-minute commute to the office.
  • Flexible with working hours and days, if required by business needs.
