Responsibilities

Reporting to the Supervisor of Apprenticeship, Trade and Occupations Certification, the Officer is responsible for the assessment and monitoring of apprentices, trades persons, occupations certification candidates, and other clients in accordance with federal and territorial apprenticeships, trades and occupations legislation, regulations, and policy. This is a key position to facilitate and administer the registration, technical training and certification of apprenticeship, trades and occupation certification program candidates in Nunavut to ensure that the qualifications of applicants in Nunavut meet or exceed national and territorial standards through an efficient and effective certification system. The incumbent will work with the Career Development Headquarters teams with a focus specific to the Nunavut Apprenticeship Certification Unit. 

The Certification Officer is responsible for the quality assurance implementation of the certification protocols; monitors the Division's Integrated System for Adult Client Service (ISACS) for functionality specific to the Apprenticeship Certification Unit; arranges technical training placements with Nunavut Arctic College and all southern training institutions; develops and maintains relationships with three regional centres of the Department of Family Services and training institutions in conjunction with the Supervisor of Apprenticeship; oversees and accurately administers the examination system for all the designated trades and occupation for Nunavut/and inter-provincial Red Seal examinations in the three regional centres.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a recognized Diploma in Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field, along with two (2) years of related experience. Experience with skilled trades and occupation certification would be an asset as well as strong database experience. 

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in one or more of Nunavut's official languages is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
