Methods Engineering Technologist - Electrical / Avionics
The Methods Engineering Technologist - Electrical / Avionics will be responsible for developing and maintaining precise manufacturing documentation that defines the assembly processes for our aircraft, sub-assemblies, and parts in alignment with type design specifications. You will play a key role in researching and recommending engineering changes to enhance efficiency, quality, and compliance. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with Production, Quality, Procurement, and other internal teams to address technical challenges and optimize manufacturing workflows. Your expertise will directly support seamless operations and continuous improvement across the production environment.
The position provides a unique opportunity to develop and build the manufacturing process for De Havilland.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and revise Engineering Masters (EM) and Work Instructions (WI) to define parts, processes, sequence and special instruction required to purchase or build a part/assembly.
- Create Assembly Manuals to define assembly requirements and special instructions for electrical and avionic installations on the aircraft.
- Define the tools required for manufacturing or assembly of electrical and avionics assembly.
- Review Engineering change for manufacturability and harmonization within the manufacturing process and incorporate into production efficiently.
- Create and revise supplemental planning documentation to fully define the build sequence of the aircraft assembly and sub-assemblies.
- Record and submit Engineering change requests for changes to build, design and tools required to improve efficiency and quality of builds including Make vs Buy decisions.
- Support the launch of new aircraft assembly line by helping define build sequence and documentation.
- Investigate root cause of manufacturing issues related to electrical and avionics systems and liaise with other functions to analyze potential solutions by evaluating cost, impacts and risks of a change in production.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives including internal/external audits and process reviews.
- Assist Planning in execution of Non-Conformance Management Tasks (i.e... Work order instructions) and implementation of corrective actions.
- Assist Area Managers in developing plans to increase efficiency and incorporation of design changes.
Education:
- Degree or diploma in Project Management, Engineering, related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience (e.g. Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, Assembler, etc.) in aerospace or manufacturing will be considered.
Experience:
- 3+ years of manufacturing, process, or industrial engineering experience ideally in aerospace or in a large component manufacturing environment, related to avionics and electrical development and modification programs.
- Previous experience in a Manufacturing Engineering, planning or Methods role
- Knowledge of Aerospace engineering and manufacturing principles and techniques
- Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and process design issues
- Ability to read and interpret aircraft engineering drawings
Skills:
- Advanced knowledge in MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Familiar with computer aided design software such as CATIA, Enovia, etc.
- Familiar with one or more Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software systems
- Ability to manage and act on multiple projects and priorities at one time.
- Innovative thinker and possess sound decision-making skills.
- Strong customer focus and great ability to work collaboratively and as a team player.
