Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Overnight Youth Worker to join our team. Youth Care Workers (YCW) play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the shelter and the wellbeing of its residents. They are responsible for maintaining a safe, supportive, and respectful environment while providing supervision, guidance, and basic needs support to youth. YCWs facilitate positive interactions, manage crisis situations, and ensure that all policies and procedures are upheld. This is an overnight part-time position for 30 hours a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday). The following responsibilities are not an exhaustive list.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise residents and ensure a safe, clean, and respectful environment
  • Monitor and support youth behavior, intervening as necessary to de-escalate conflicts or crises
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, involving external services (police, ambulance, management) when needed
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including incident reports, SMIS, logs, and intake forms
  • Perimeter checks including monitoring the facility, confirming curfew extensions, bed checks & medications management
  • Facility management including housekeeping duties such as cleaning dishes, washrooms, common areas and laundry as needed
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and program development
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, or a related social services field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably working with homeless or at-risk youth
  • Previous overnight experience
  • Strong crisis management, de-escalation, and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with Toronto Shelter Standards and SMIS
  • CPR/First Aid certification

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $28.56 per hour
